Hi everyone, from rainy Coventry.
Emma, Upstart Theatre (she/her)
18:26
Hello Everyone! It’s sunnyish in SE London
Catherine
18:27
Hello all . Looking forward to hearing more :) (about the festival, not the rain so much ;p )
Alex Johnson
18:52
You can have the rain!

hello
Kevin Shen
34:31
To clarify on the collaborative aspect, does that mean we shouldn’t apply as solo theatremakers/scriptwriters, and that we would need a company for devising?
Emma, Upstart Theatre (she/her)
36:41
Solo and individual artists are welcome but all the pieces will be shared as they are developed at 3 workshops/artist development days. You’ll give feedback to others’ work and they’ll give feedback to yours. We ask that everyone has a “collaborative spirit” and will benefit from the opportunity of having mentorship and the support of other DARE artists.
Jonluke McKie
38:18
Hello guys. a question: is there any additional funds to provide access for regional artists/companies? thanks.
Kevin Shen
38:37
Great, but if your idea is a piece with other actors, do we need to apply with that cast onboard, or can we find people once we have the commission?
Clémence Debaig
39:24
Would you mind specifying how the livestream would work? Are we looking at something like a YouTube livestream or a Zoom? Asking because the difference of latency between the two options has a significant impact on the participation mechanics
Symoné
39:25
Hello! A quick question. Is this for specific genres of work are you open?i.e. is live art/dance/circus suitable? or is this more for actors and comedians?
Matt Rogers
41:12
On performances, will those be on consecutive days across the festival with each day being the same, or is the programming more fluid?
Emma, Upstart Theatre (she/her)
41:25
@jonluke Sorry≥ unfortunately not. The commission amount has been increased this year from previous years in the hope that this can support some of those costs.
Jonluke McKie
41:39
Cheers Emma
Emma, Upstart Theatre (she/her)
41:43
@Kevin no, you don’t need to have a cast onboard when you apply.
Kevin Shen
41:52
Great, thanks Emma!
Holly McComish
42:53
is there a maximum number of people that can be in a company?
Emma, Upstart Theatre (she/her)
43:53
@symone no, we’re not focused on specific genres or closed to other genres. Check out the commission guidance

DARE is the past has incorporated many different artworks. We’ve had dance, wrestling, theatre, art installations.
Emma, Upstart Theatre (she/her)
46:49
@tom could you provide more details about the livestream and how that will be done?
Tom, Upstart Theatre (he/him)
47:16
Absolutely, I’ll talk about it in the Q&A portion of the webinar
Emma, Upstart Theatre (she/her)
48:31
@Matt I think this year we will probably have the same programme over three consecutive days. In the past we have mixed things up more but with covid etc it is probably going to be easier to keep the same programme each night. @HANNAH have I got that right?
Carla Keen (she or her)
48:46
Experienced 'The House Always Wins' - loved it. :)
Clémence Debaig
49:02
Did the House Never Wins by Kill the Cat. And looooved it. So happy to hear from you guys :)
Carbs she/her
49:23
Is the product that is presented at Dare meant to resemble a finished product or can it be 30 minutes of something that will eventually be longer?
Octavia Nyombi
50:00
How would you like us to answer the barriers questions as a collective? For example, in our company I’m mixed race & trans, but my co-founder is not.
Emma, Upstart Theatre (she/her)
50:04
@Carbs more the latter than the former. Previous DARES have had a mix of both.
Carbs she/her
50:36
Thank you
Suzy Kohane
51:02
@Octavia, would also love to discuss this!
Caitlin Strongarm (she/her)
51:13
This has been so helpful! Thank you!
Emma, Upstart Theatre (she/her)
51:18
@octavia the questions are open, we’re not doing check boxes on a form so you can answer as fully as you need to.
Octavia Nyombi
52:11
thank you Emma
Alex Johnson
52:16
I don't have Company, but putting one together. Can I apply as an individual in the first instance?
Emma, Upstart Theatre (she/her)
53:05
@Alex yes you can
Alex Johnson
53:45
@Emma Thank you.

Dylan Frankland (he/him)
57:49
Aw thanks @Carla and @Clemence - that’s lovely to hear!
Sean Hollands
59:49
Hello. Will audiences need to be seated for the shows?
Jen
01:00:24
Do you provide rehearsal space please?
Carla Keen (she or her)
01:00:48
Would you consider performances that are entirely experienced online?
Suzy Kohane
01:01:04
We are an emerging company, however we already have a sound designer and dramaturg onboard who we have been doing research with. We are really interested in everyone being a part of the devising process as early as possible. Is it okay to apply with them involved?
Octavia Nyombi
01:01:49
So should we only propose an end-on style performance? Not traverse etc...
alex hick (he/him)
01:01:59
Just to highlight Holly Mccomish’s question again: is their a maximum number of people that can be in a company?
Clémence Debaig
01:02:12
Makes sense, thank you!
Holly McComish
01:02:28
in regards to the reserved commissions, what if company members fit across multiple of the commissions categories? eg some memebers are working class, some members are LBGT
Alex Johnson
01:02:50
Apologies, have to leave to get into another meeting. Thanks for all in the info, really useful. Good luck everyone.
Octavia Nyombi
01:03:02
@holly good question
Catherine
01:04:11
Could individuals collaborate WITHIN the festival? ie if similar ideas are present, could they maybe come together as one piece? Just a random thought...
Emma, Upstart Theatre (she/her)
01:04:16
There is no maximum number of people in a company but please bare in mind covid and also that there is only £1000 and you want to make sure that everyone’s costs are covered.
Lucy Lill
01:04:41
Thanks so much - sorry I have to go but really useful.
francescastone
01:05:02
Do you have any advice on how to make your work audience interactive when it is online?
Lilly Burton
01:05:04
My idea is intergenerational but currently its not safe to reach out to the elderly community and find participants. I would like to adapt this and ask Dare audiences what sort of questions they would ask an elderly participant centring around my related theme, does this work under the playable format?
Leo Bacica
01:05:37
Can you please clarify the concept of 'playable' a bit? Straight-up dramas are a no-go?
Catherine
01:06:09
:)
Susanne Eder
01:06:39
Hi everyone! I am from One and Three Quarters and we are a theatre company of disabled women. We are right at the beginning of our journey of creating work. We came across this opportunity a couple of days ago and it sounds really interesting and exciting! Unfortunately, the time frame is not accessible to our way of working. Maybe it’s something for us in the future.
Matt Rogers
01:07:25
For companies from outside London would you folks be able to help with accommodation, even if it's couches from friends of the festival?
Jen
01:07:30
Thanks for clarifying.
Sean Hollands
01:07:39
Thank you for all the information!
Emma, Upstart Theatre (she/her)
01:08:16
@Susanne please stay in touch!
Leo Bacica
01:08:28
Thank you! :)
Catherine
01:09:05
As long as the dimensions are shared, rehearsal spaces can be mocked up remotely if need be ;)
Carla Keen (she or her)
01:09:18
Planning for gov. recommendations can be a nightmare, would you consider a 100% online show?
Symoné
01:09:19
Q - Very simple question. I have an idea for playable work but would like to use a projector. Is this possible in The Ditch?
Emma, Upstart Theatre (she/her)
01:09:51
@symone Yes that’s possible.
Carla Keen (she or her)
01:09:59
Thanks. :) :)
Octavia Nyombi
01:10:52
When you say traditional forms of staging, do you mean cos of Covid we need to only propose end on style work? Or could we do Traverse/ In the round etc as long as it was seated?
Anoushka (she/her)
01:11:47
Would the performance have to take place in the venue space? Or could it be streamed street theatre (for example?)
Catherine
01:11:50
Could meetings be attended virtually? ie lockdown/public transport could be tricky
alex hick (he/him)
01:12:27
Because the Rivington Room/Garden Studio usually seats 50-60 people, do you have a rough idea of many they would seat socially distanced?
Lilly Burton
01:12:40
is playable done one on one with an audience member and the performer still possible?
Octavia Nyombi
01:12:58
thank you for such a good answer ☺️
