apparently art galleries are good for testing - CUNY GC is also using the art gallery...
Warrick Bell
23:30
how will it be ensured that people who come on campus for testing (and therefore have not been "admitted") actually leave the campus after doing so?
lisa
23:34
are you required to get the testing done on campus or can you go to any site off campus
Alana Gaymon (she, her)
23:38
What options are available for public transportation to the campus? Will the S93 bus stop in front of 1A, and if not, will there be additional loop busses to get people to 1A? Will there be a shuttle bus from the SI Ferry, and where will it let people off when it arrives at the campus?
Barbara Schiano
24:12
Will the back entrance be open when school begins.
Yolanda Gonzalez
24:18
Are you able to go to any CUNY school to get tested? Or do you have to go to the school you work for?
James
24:21
lisa, test must be from any CUNY campus testing site
James
24:43
any CUNY school
Catherine Lavender (she, her)
24:49
Yolanda, any CUNY school.

I read yesterday on the CUNY reopening guidelines webpage that CUNY community members will be asked to observe the "honor system" when it comes to wearing masks on CUNY campuses. This is very concerning to me.Will we be allowed to require masks in order for people to enter our offices, whether they are vaccinated or not (given this ill-advised "honor system" policy)? I'm honestly very concerned about having to be the "mask police" in my office, especially with how hostile people can get when asked to wear a mask.
Angela Ramos....... (she/her/hers)
28:03
Wow!
Emma Johnson
28:03
Regarding transportation: If the loop bus ends at 4PM, how are we supposed to get to and from the city bus at the front gate? There is not even a sidewalk connecting to campus. My classes are scheduled to end at 9:50PM and I do not own a car. Nor do all of my students.
Margaret Berci
28:15
Hello everyone, I do not have access to a camera today - sorry.
Byron Taylor
29:00
Can we get tested at other locations and upload our results on Everbridge app or CUNY Vax?
Alan Hoffner
29:20
I have a concern, and others I know have the same concern. about the CUNY student vaccination protocols. In my view, the protocols, particularly a vaccine requirement, should apply equally to students, faculty, & staff. But the change in the student requirement is particularly concerning. In effect, students are being permitted on-campus without any evidence of vaccinations, through mid-September. What will occur after mid-September, when numbers of students have been found to be out of compliance?
Catherine Lavender (she, her)
29:44
Ilsa, you cannot ask anyone's vaccination status, so you will not be the mask police.
Nina Morgenlander
29:55
TY for asking my question, Warrick
Catherine Lavender (she, her)
31:30
Ilsa, we are barred from asking vaccination status. This means we are required to assume that those who are not wearing masks must have been vaccinated. I know this makes little sense, but it is CUNY's position that it is illegal to ask about any one's vaccination status unless you are screening at the entry gate for Public Safety
Erma Tacopino
31:57
It will be very difficult coming into campus as everyone needs to stop at the booth, How will this be handled? Also, will the rear gate be open?
Ilyssa Silfen (She/Her/Hers)
32:07
Hi Catherine! The "mask police" phrasing was referring to my wanting to ask everyone to wear a mask in order to be in my office. I'm concerned that people may become hostile if I ask them to wear one. But it sounds like I can't ask them to wear one, anyway, so I guess the point is moot.
Cesar Arenas
32:50
What was the rationale for having different vaccination mandate standards for students and faculty?
Penny Varriano
33:00
Do we need to fill out and receive campus visit form in order to get testing.
Maria Testori
33:47
I don’t drive and someone drives me to campus. How would this work? I work at CSA. Thank you.
Laura Maraio
33:48
As staff I cannot upload vaccination records to CUNYFirst
Catherine Lavender (she, her)
34:04
Yes, Ilsa, we are barred by CUNY from asking people to wear masks. The union has asked for a clear policy about this but we are still waiting for the campus to announce its policies.
Laura Maraio
34:17
I work for the Association, is there going to be a way to verify for non employees?
theresa.ferre
34:20
What about the employees that are still waiting to get added to CunyFirst Vaccine Verification so they can add their vaccine record.
Crystal Perrillo
34:32
For anyone who does not drive , are we allowed to be picked up and dropped off by Uber or anyone else ?

35:16
At the Graduate Center everybody is required to wear a mask.
Catherine Lavender (she, her)
35:43
The Graduate Center is requiring everyone to wear a mask. Why is that not possible at CSI?
Ilyssa Silfen (She/Her/Hers)
36:06
No worries, Catherine! :) And yes, I echo your question RE: requiring masks at CSI.
Erica Yakobzon
37:16
It hasn't been 2 weeks since my 2nd dose so I don't have Excelsior pass and cannot verify through CunyFirst until after 17th - what should I do since submissions are due soon?

Emma Johnson
43:46
Are you going to reschedule the evening classes so that they are during the hours that transportation is available? Or will you move them to a location that is accessible with sidewalks, crosswalks and sufficient streetlights from the front gate?
Susan Imberman
44:22
What is the minimum that a hybrid class must meet?
Hope Berte
44:42

Wha tis the rationale for having different policies for students, staff and faculty?
Hope Berte
46:18
Cleaning supplies will be available for office spaces. Facilities will supply.

labor laws
Catherine Lavender (she, her)
47:09
The Union Chapter has requested that masks be worn by all in common indoor spaces -- elevators, hallways, stairwells -- and that all office managers be given the authority to require all to wear masks in the spaces that they oversee, based on safety needs in a mixed population of vaccinated and unvaccinated with the Delta variant.
Probal Banerjee
47:15
Are students also attending this meeting?
Catherine Lavender (she, her)
47:27
Probal, there is a student Town Hall next week.

Andrew Leykam

Anne Hays
48:48
I 100% agree about masks. That should absolutely be required on campus, period.
Catherine Lavender (she, her)
48:49
It is also CUNY's policy that the campus leader CAN set guidelines to require masking of everyone in SPECIFIC spaces.
Janice Awerbuch

I dislike having a negative attitude, but people lie
David A Gerstner
48:50
I would encourage that masks be required in the classroom

Universal masking should be required for everybody!

Andrew Leykam

we can do it! why don't we?
Jeremiah Jurkiewicz (He/Him/His)
49:49
Agreed on masking for all indoor spaces.
Catherine Lavender (she, her)
49:59
Mark, we are barred from saying "masks for all in ALL of the campus" but there is nothing that would prevent us from indicating SPECIFIC places where masks must be worn for all.
Susan Chapman

Steven Milewski
51:23
With delta being capable of being transmitted by vaccinated members, why are vaccinated members exempt from testing until it is a problem, and even then only randomly?
Ann Booth (She/her)
51:24
Why not require masks?
Andrew Palladino
51:27
Second that, Cynthia!
Warrick Bell
51:31
moderna is still approximately 95% effective against delta variant
Katie Cumiskey
51:45
I agree with Cynthia - why does GC get to mandate it and not us... esp because of low vaccination level on Staten Island and 9% positivity rate on Staten Island
Alan Hoffner
52:00
I agree that masks should be required of all under these circumstances. Any policy short of this is perilous. Every policy CUNY has made errs on the wrong side. Inconsistent requirements for us v them. Postponing enforcement. The honor system for masks. Each of those is wrong.
David A Gerstner
52:03
Brava!
Heather Blaylock
52:09
Are unvaccinated students/faculty/staff going to be allowed to use the cafeteria/gym or attend CUNY events per DeBlasio's plan to not allow this citywide beginning mid-September?

Anne Hays
53:42
And in public spaces like the library, 1C, 1P, computer labs, 1A, all those buildings… students/faculty/staff are all mixed populations. We need to be wearing masks.
Valeria Belmonti CSI
53:44
How would we even know if someone if a vaccinated student is positive and asymptomatic? They are not required to test
Michael Parrish
54:20
Susan - CUNY has interpreted hybrid as any situation where students come to campus, including a scenario where they only take exams on campus.
Ilyssa Silfen (She/Her/Hers)
54:36
What's the point of a town hall if you're not going to respond to all questions? Cynthia deserves a response.

Masks for All
Andrew Leykam
55:34

Catherine Lavender (she, her)
55:45
David, the unmasked under the CSI policy are those who have been fully vaccinated and anyone else (regardless of status) who does not obey the honor code for which there is no penalty
David A Gerstner
56:13
Yes, but the college—it seems to me—can set their own standards
Catherine Lavender (she, her)
56:28
The CDC guidelines are for anyone in an indoor space, regardless of vaccination status, to wear masks when with others who are not vaccinated.
Cesar Arenas
56:32
From an epidemiological strategy the worst is to have breakthrough infections of vaccinated people that will enable the evolution of vaccine-resistant variants.
Andrew Leykam
57:08
yup so please post the cdc guidelines you are following
Warrick Bell
57:21
will we have answers to most of these questions by next week, when a large number of us are expected to return to in-person work on campus?

The fact that so much of NYC is open provides an even stronger argument for more safety on campus.

Not everything is open Broadway will be requiring full vaccines. And masks. That’s the only responsible policy.
Ilyssa Silfen (She/Her/Hers)

The GC justification Indoor Masking: The latest Guidance for Implementing COVID-19 Prevention Strategies from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends indoor mask-wearing for unvaccinated and vaccinated individuals in areas with substantial or high rates of COVID transmission. New York City is one of those areas. As a result, the Graduate Center continues to require that masks be worn in all indoor public spaces (hallways, restrooms, lounges, etc.) and in any office spaces with more than one occupant. This requirement applies to vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals.

Please remember - that these concerns are being raised by staff and faculty who want to come back to campus, who want to serve our students well and who want to be safe. We should honor their voices and concerns. Thank you all for loving CSI as much as you do!
Andrew Palladino
01:20:26
Masking is a “house rule”- a sign of respect for all involved. Same thing as hanging up your coat or taking your shoes off at the door. It’s a sign of respect for your fellow classmates, professors, and your own family and friends. It just makes sense!
Cynthia Chris
01:20:35
True, Anne. One concern is that in a room full of unmasked, vaxed student, a student who is not vaccinated may feel stigmatized by wearing a mask which will reduce compliance with the “honor system.”

I'm not sure how I could advise a student while maintaining social distancing and/or advise in a more open space, while respecting FERPA and student lawful rights to academic privacy. Since there are many unknowns and some of us will be working with students in 6 days, a mask mandate at CSI seems like the most logical solution at this time.

I am an adjunct. I am scheduled to teach until 9:50. In the evening, it could take me 2 hours to get home when the ferry shuttle was running. I cannot afford to buy a car let alone pay for a cab or tolls and parking on my salary. 100% of the time I took the shuttle bus in the evening, I was with my own students. This is not an exaggeration, our students depend on this too.
Catherine Lavender (she, her)

yes Janice, I see your point, I am on campus more than the store, but 15 minutes is long enought to get exposed. I still feel our campus is safer than the market
Catherine Lavender (she, her)
01:32:06
Danger is based on viral load -- not just an initial exposure, but ongoing exposure. If one is in a space where people with the virus are shedding, the length of time we spend in contact -- especially for the vaccinated -- has a direct relationship to increasing your chances of contracting an infection.

Andrew Leykam
01:35:49
we are given potable shields regarding plexiglass
Catherine Lavender (she, her)
01:35:58
Orit, you would have to get your supervisor to request. But understand that plexiglass is good for maintaining social distancing, but is not protection against the virus. In fact, it may result in poor air circulation, which would be worse.
Andrew Leykam
