Right now the funding isn’t specifically designated to extracurriculars its general funding and I have seen a lot of youth being told the funding doesn’t exist. It does they just have to look for it
Rochelle Trochtenberg (She/They) Ombudsperson
02:13:20
All foster youth have the right to participate in extracurricular, cultural, racial, ethnic, personal enrichment, and social activities, including, but not limited to, access to computer technology and theinternet, consistent with the child’s age, maturity, developmental level, sexual orientation, and gender identity and expression. Jennifer Rodriguez, she/her/hers, Youth Law Center
02:16:04
Hi all, Sorry multi-tasking here. SB 219 died in Appropriations- was determined to be too expensive. Requires lots of education to help legislators understand the points Kristina made about why this is so critical for youth! Legislators need to know the research says this is most important thing we can do other than ensure youth are stable and loved by adults in their lives.
Rochelle Trochtenberg (She/They) Ombudsperson
02:16:14
The right to participate is in law. It can be an issue of funding. Many organizations also have scholarships for children/youth and we need to ensure caregivers and social workers are asking organizations if scholarships are available when there is an issue of funding.
