When people register to vote and sign their registration they intend to vote honesty and do so. Everyone else need only know that everyone only wants to vote honestly. It takes faith in your fellow voters that their is no fraud. Since investigations have shown that there is little or no voter fraud, the statement I just made is true and correct and needs to be put out for all to read. It is voter suppression, which that takes deliberate action on the part of the people to cause voter suppression, that is fraudulent. Any legislator who tries to suppress the vote needs to be voted out of office.

Carol Sullivan
01:04:38
Can RCV lead to Proportional Representation in multiple winner situations?
Jim Lazar
01:06:29
The MORE POSITIVE CAMPAIGNS is a big seller. Mary Peltola won in Alaska by being nice. Palin lost because she was NOT nice. Begich voters were unwilling to vote for Palin. In a pure partisan primary, Begich would have lost in the primary, and Palin may well have won in the runoff.
David Gordon
01:08:41
I prefer "negative" campaigns to "positive" campaigns because I learn bad things (e.g., bad votes) about each candidate that I never would have learned through "positive" campaigns.
Max Bauman
01:09:03
What'd you say to people who happen to ascribe to the philosophy of score voting being MUCH less partisan than even Rank-Choice Voting? (Speaking nothing about first-past the post systems.)

01:14:59
Ray Pardee, RCV means more Democrats can run without splitting the vote, and RCV can help Democrats find the most preferred Democrat.
Kit Muehlman
01:15:26
Roy, sorry about your name, Roy, I read an opinion that with RCV we wouldn't need a third party.

I agree with Lisa' answer, I also think it makes it much eaiser for smaller arties as people can vote for them without fear of the so called spoiler effect, this I think it is a more precise and fair way to measure voter preferences than our current system.
Dwight Rousu
01:20:41
@Joseph - agree. The green party mostly likes rank choice
Ken Dammand
01:22:08
If Washington went to a multi-winner, proportional representation system, how would the state be divided, e.g. East zone and West zone, or would the whole state be done as a single area?
Chris Mason
01:23:23
FairVote Washington has endorsed Julie Anderson for SOS.Anderson is the best candidate if you want RCV and is also endorsed by a lot of the auditors around the state.
David Gordon
01:24:38
I'm for RCV. One drawback, however, is those of us who feel some Democrats have gotten too far right and want to punish them by voting for a far-left candidate. For example, in 2004 after entering a war (Iraq) that Americans didn't want, the Democrats nominated a candidate that said "even knowing what I now know, I still would have invaded Iraq". (John Kerry) So some people voted for 3rd party as a protest. RCV would have obviated their protest since the Democratic leaders would have (rightly) assumed these people would have picked Kerry as their 2nd choice over Bush. Thus their positions could still be ignored.

Re: Final Five Voting, WA already has “Open Primaries”. FVWA has always supported using ranking in the Primary. In Alaska, they decided to use Pick One in the Primary. Interestingly, a number of people in Alaska have now asked “why can’t I rank in the primary?”
David Gordon
01:39:13
I have just been persuaded (by Joe Szwaya) that RCV doesn't have the problem I mentioned: people will be unafraid to vote for 3rd party candidates so the vote count for 3rd party candidates will grow. If the Democrats continue to move right, eventually 3rd party candidates will overtake them and be elected. If someone strongly dislikes the Democratic candidate, they do have the option of just voting 3rd party and not putting a 2nd choice.
