You state "user friendly" on the NOR. Who do you consider the user?

on the code of conduct - per RRS it is ALSO their parents, if they show up at a regatta. That has been my biggest problem since, oh, 1967.

Todd, thank you for your insight. Indeed there are two primary users: 1. Sailors and 2. Parents and we hope that the updated Code will well serve both constituents.

We really restricted parents from the MYC program last year as well as having all of our first year sailors sail alone without a buddy or JI from day 1 and had great success that. Promoting independence was a very positive move.

Hi folks, Todd Field, Sagamore Junior Sailing Program Manager for a little while longer. Won my first 1st place in 1962. Moved from LI to New London, so I'll be moving out of this group next year, after being active for … oh … many years. Been a sailor (losing to Dave Perry) in JYRALIS, head instructor at Centerport YC, raced and placed nationally and internationally and have two kids who have been through JSALIS. Looking to become involved at Niantic Bay Yacht Club.

SJS last year - we cancelled the program because of the legal liabilities to the board of directors.

We had folks on the board who realized that they were basically wide open to lawsuits.

This year we have decided it is OK to continue, and we are almost full and looking to hire additional instructors.

We have added Lasers this year, but will be using BJ's too.

Last time I reviewed the rules for JSA, there was lots of discussion about having to repeat stuff. I applaud cutting the documents down to the minimum.

JSA question: How do we get this message out to the parents?

I think that the past two items are the most important change to JSALIS in two decades. How is this information going to be distributed to the parents?

OK, the last three items.

RRS 1.1 question - some regattas provide safety and rescue resources… this team might be better suited to help than a well intentioned parent with medium skill set or a boat hard to operate. Do RC/Safety and Rescue have the ability to ask people to stand down? OR for some events that have powerboat waiting areas and coaching coordinators I could see some helicopter coaches/parents arguing the need to leave the waiting area because someone “looks to be in trouble”

Hey - interesting. The boat displaying all the flags obviously did not have a US Sailing certified PRO - they did not use the gold flag.

One of the most influential people teaching me rules was Dick Rose. We ran frostbite protests at PWYC and it was great. All protests were open and Dick would explain to everyone what was happening.
