The PC in my office doesn't have a microphone. I I usually can hear though.

21:14
I'll change rooms

We encourage everyone to use the chat here to ask questions (since we've got everyone muted to avoid technical difficulties).

55:50
I noticed that you didn’t include CMAT 1313 Finite as an introductory level course

57:18
We just missed that as we were guesstimating which courses were introductory level. Thank you for sharing that.

01:00:09
Our institution has been in the process of "freeing up" general education courses across the degrees. What happens if a student completes a pathway and changes major?

01:01:46
The research shows that a vast majority of the students who change majors change from a stem major to a non-stem major. In this study, some students did change majors and were at least and even better in the stem courses than their peers

01:03:59
Agreed. My question is whether having different pathways will cause a student to retake math courses because a particular non-stem major requires it.

01:05:09
@Jimmy, we have seen institutions put ‘recommended or default math course’ in the program guide. An advisor can provide a waiver to substitute a different math course

01:07:15
@Jimmy For example, if the recommended course was intro statistics because the students will go on to take a “methods” class for their major (psychology, for example) but they took the pre-calc courses, the department may offer some extra tutoring or support in the stats skills that are not reintroduced in the methods course. It requires a lot of intentional collaboration between the math department and the partner disciplines that are worried about having students change majors with the wrong math class.

01:08:13
I see.

01:08:19
Most of the schools I have worked with have found ways to avoid requiring students to retake a gateway math course if they change from STEM to non-STEM.

01:27:03
I’m interested in the class size for the present model.

01:28:20
how many students total did you serve this fall? in previous years?

01:28:39
You mentioned using Pearson MyMathLab for homework. Were tests also on MyMathLab or were they on paper?

01:28:54
Next math after contemporary math?

01:29:15
No, paper test were given in class to prepare them for the final exam.

01:29:19
HI Frank,Based on the success rate for fall 2020 compared to other semesters, would you say cut scores to enter the co-requistie are crucial, or do you think it's more due to dual modality instruction?

01:30:22
Karen - after both courses students take Finite Math.

01:34:58
what would “enhanced advising” for underprepared students look like?

01:35:55
@Nathan, it can mean many different things, but the implication here is that, when your placement processes are more accurate, your advisors know which students really need more of a high-touch approach.

01:36:51
In the Box folder, look for “Readiness Assessment” and “Next Steps”

01:37:06
And later you will need “Attrition-Throughput”

01:37:55
The files are within the “Workshop 1” folder at the link.

01:38:02
The second Moderna shot is tough on you

02:15:29
Is the Breakout Report supposed to have a single comment for this breakout time?

02:17:36
It was not clear to me what information should have been input into the Google form.

02:17:47
@georgia, feel free to share any high level reflection or a big question that emerged from your breakout group here if you'd like.

02:18:13
Only 4 students would have made it through the system.

02:18:15
Okay, just wanted to verify that we were not adding info on each action on the assessment.

02:18:18
The Google form was intended for the breakout that we skipped. Sorry for the confusion! We hope you had a chance to look at the readiness assessment with your teams.

02:19:24
@georgia the readiness assessment is for your team to complete after this session, if you didn't have time to dig in fully in these breakouts

02:19:32
I’m hoping that we will have the “Homework Assignment” tasks sent to the team via email. Right?

02:21:02
Thank you very much
