Theres lots of non dog content in the channel
Christina (she/her) RG Staff

Christina (she/her) RG Staff

I try not to dismiss the importance of animals but raccoons are a difficult animal
Wallace Mazon

You all seem to be so thoughtful and caring of the team it's really inspiring
Talita Elizeu
01:06:56

LMBO
Gabriel Cabán Cubero (They/Elle)
01:07:46
I really appreciate that their isn’t just talk of work - life balance, but it is codified and entranced in policies and culture

Gabriel Cabán Cubero (They/Elle)
01:08:26
Raccoons are really beautiful, sweet, brilliant. I just took my boyfriend to play with a raccoon as a date!
Christina (she/her) RG Staff
01:08:51
I have a feeling there will be questions about raccoons
Carolyn Miller

01:09:16
For the membership coordinator, are the goals two fold/equal parts grow membership and grow giving pledges? Or is one more of a priority?
Christina (she/her) RG Staff
01:09:20
Wallace we will have to make that our staff check in question tomorrow
Ananya Garg she/her
01:09:24
Thank you for putting together this open house & presentation!
Daniel Vigil Rodriguez
01:09:24
This question is for adam: what does a typical work day look for you?
Sarah F (they/them)
01:09:32
Could we have like 2-3 mins of quiet to think and type questions plz? :)
Molly Schulman (she/her)
01:09:32
Thanks y’all! Could you talk about how these roles interact with RG’s new C4?
Adam Roberts, he/him, RG staff
01:09:33
Hiring Timeline: We will accept applications for this position through July 12th. We expect to hold first round interviews later in July and final round interviews in early August. Our desired start date is September 1st, 2020.
Jasmin Velez
01:09:34
If we’re interested in more than one position, should we mention that in the cover letter or write one for each position as two separate applications?
Amanishakete Ani
01:09:39
What would you all say has been your greatest success yet?
Jess Schwalb she/her
01:09:45
Can you talk a little bit about what some of the college organizing fellows have been up to so far?
Andrea Vargas
01:09:46
I apologize if I missed this but how long has your organization been around?
Carla Sandoval
01:10:04
how has Covid impacted the memberships to RGs?
Jessie (she/her)
01:10:13
Could y’all speak a little bit more about CPD, who they are and why RG supports them?
Wallace Mazon
01:10:20
Why do you organize and what keeps you motivated to do this wirk?
Rachel Mewes (she/they)
01:10:27
It seems like y’all have a really thoughtful and intentional working culture! What structures or systems do you have in place to address when someone causes harm to someone else within the organization?
Tarek Ziad he/him/his
01:10:29
I saw that the college organizer has 30 days of travel a year. That was actually much less than I expected! How much time are you envisioning being spent at each college--if that's what the travel is for?
Ericka Dixon
01:10:30
Do you also redistribute money to volunteer groups and/or individual fundraises?
Gabriel Cabán Cubero (They/Elle)
01:10:38
To Katie: I saw in the job application for college organizer will be working with a pretty new fellowship program. How does the fellowship program work in it’s current form? What is the vision for how it’ll work in the future?
Hannah Milagio she/her
01:10:39
What specifically about the data collection and analysis process is RG looking to streamline?
Hannah Ferster (she/her)
01:10:40
How do college chapters interact with the non-college local chapters?
Melissa Medin
01:10:50
Hi! I am interested in applying for the College Organizer Position. I wanted to ask if the position would specifically revolve around a specific college campus, or if it will be in relation to several colleges? Thank you so much!
Carla Sandoval
01:10:52
does the membership coordinator maintain a donor portfolio as well as research new donors?
Marshall Hanig
01:10:57
Whats the decision making process for deciding where funds are moved (i.e. the 50M that would go to social justice movements)?
Talita Elizeu
01:11:01
How has the practice run of integrative consent/more democratic decision making changed your workplace, and if you don’t continue implementing it entirely, what will you keep?
Rachel Mewes (she/they)
01:11:16
I am also wondering about opportunities for growth within RG
Jessie (she/her)
01:11:20
Is the organization among the staff hierarchical / what is that hierarchy, if you have managers, supervisors, etc. or are non-hierarchical
Carla Sandoval
01:11:24
does RG do any Crowdfunding?
Sarah F (they/them)
01:11:28
Are college organizers considering the campus as (one of) the community they answer to? Do campus chapters move money to movements doing work on their campus/in their surrounding community?
Rachel Schlueter (she/her)
01:11:31
Would you say that RG values process over product, or vice versa?
Katrina Wulf (she/her)
01:11:36
Generally speaking, what is members' favorite benefit of membership?
Christina (she/her) RG Staff
01:11:37
These are hard hitting questions
Amanishakete Ani
01:11:47
2nd question, if I may, does RG require orgs and movements invested in to do specific things with the funds they receive from RG members? In other words, is the support provided from RG contingency funds, or gifts?
Christina (she/her) RG Staff
01:11:48
RG has been around for 21 years
LaNeyshia Drew
01:11:49
The HR TEAM should break the questions down by person
Tyler Williams
01:11:55
Hello! what programs and employee resources has the organization implemented for its staff with the current political climate and unfortunate police brutality?
LaNeyshia Drew
01:11:55
And then general
Becca Neubardt (she/they)
01:12:08
how many hours/week do the college organizing fellows work? thinking in terms of supervising that team and what their schedule is like
Mia Kang
01:12:47
What is the best way to apply if you feel you’d be a good match for multiple roles?
Kayla Malone
01:13:21
What is the vision for college organising? Are college chapters working for macro level campaigns? Or is there a vision to organizing to make the university or college a more equitable space through organizing against marketization of higher ed, decolonizing curriculum, more diverse teaching staff, college persistence from lower socio-economic and bipoc students?
Melissa Medin
01:13:57
Hi! I also wanted to clarify about the number of positions open. I know there are 3 different jobs advertised, but is there only person per position, or will several people be fulfilling these roles? Thank you so much!
Alex Milinazzo | he/him
01:14:15
^^
Christina (she/her) RG Staff
01:14:16
Yes 3 positions total. 1 per role
Christina (she/her) RG Staff
01:14:35
I think folks are encouraged to follow the application process via Breezy in each role
Katrina Wulf (she/her)
01:18:03
Membership Coordinator Question--How does RG help members who are not located near a local chapter connect with one another and the organization?
Christina (she/her) RG Staff
01:18:25
Tyler HR just put out a wellness survey to see if there are any additional needs in this climate besides the 32 hour week. More political ed about tackling anti blackness, unlimited sick time, and folks taking on non job specific tasks to support well being in this time, especially for poor/working class/middle class staff of color - esp Black folks
Wallace Mazon
01:19:13
https://populardemocracy.org/our-work/campaigns/all
Carla Sandoval
01:19:35
is part of the fundraising through grants?
Annie Lipsitz (she/her)
01:19:49
can you speak to the relationship that each of these positions have to each their respective “managers” both in supervision/management and division of responsibilities? (e.g. Is the Membership Director the Membership Coordinator’s boss? How is what the Director does different from what the Coordinator would do. Similar questions for the Organizer positions)
LaNeyshia Drew
01:20:13
Question for ADAM - Would you say that the Membership Coord is a technical position or that someone with a technical background would do well / better in that position?
LaNeyshia Drew
01:21:03
@Annie Lipsitz - Good Question!!!
Katherine Leshchiner
01:21:34
Question for Adam - what data management system do you currently use?
Eva she/her

Adam Roberts, he/him, RG staff
01:22:31
@Katherine, EveryAction8
Adam Roberts, he/him, RG staff
01:22:56
(is related to NGP-VAN, if you are familiar with that system)
Christina (she/her) RG Staff
01:23:02
Someone asked about the membership trends because of COVID - membership has gone up that seems to be influenced by the uprisings too which feel inseparable
Gabriel Cabán Cubero (They/Elle)
01:23:30
Huge huge huge fan of developing students with wealth or access to wealth in future jobs to begin thinking about how they will redistribute that wealth!
Ananya Garg she/her
01:23:45
If I am interested in two different positions, should I submit two different applications?
Adam Roberts, he/him, RG staff
01:24:00
@ananya yes!
Adam Roberts, he/him, RG staff
01:24:16
submit to each position separately via Breezy, tho you can use same or very similar materials
Ananya Garg she/her
01:24:25
Thanks, Adam!
Wallace Mazon
01:24:28
How does RG feel about direct actions? Does membership ever participate in the ladder of escalation?
Adam Roberts, he/him, RG staff
01:24:41
It seems like y’all have a really thoughtful and intentional working culture! What structures or systems do you have in place to address when someone causes harm to someone else within the organization?
Christina (she/her) RG Staff
01:25:18
We call members to show up for direct action when its appropriate, and in the appropriate context they’re being called to
Katherine Leshchiner
01:25:37
Thanks, Adam.
Christina (she/her) RG Staff
01:25:40
Yahya just hosted “Defending Black lives” which was a training on direct action for folks with class privilege and wealth
Becca Neubardt (she/they)
01:25:53
katie, what is your role as a national organizer? you mentioned certain chapters you work with- are those chapters different from the chapters the regional organizers work with?
Christina (she/her) RG Staff
01:25:58

Gabriel Cabán Cubero (They/Elle)
01:26:05
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Tarek Ziad he/him/his
01:26:58
Would you describe the college organizer position as possibly "entry-level?" Thinking from the perspective of a 2020 college grad with understanding of current college students and with experience mobilizing and fundraising on campuses, but less so with outside nonprofits.
Elias B (they/them)
01:27:14
Re: "curriculum" for workshops and things of that sort that Katie mentioned, is there any coverage of trauma surrounding money/the way money trauma manifests and affects marginalized folks (if not working with maybe lower class individuals since the focus is on youth w/wealth, maybe presenting that framework to your audience as something to be aware of)?
Melissa Medin (She/Her)
01:27:34
I second Tarek's question! I graduated in December of 2019 and would like to know if this is a position I would be a suitable fit for.
Rachel Mewes (she/they)
01:27:38
Thank you!
Daniel Vigil Rodriguez
01:28:09
is there room to grow within this organization?
Elizabeth Lucy
01:28:14
@Adam, will the Membership Coordinator engage in coaching RG members through their giving—1:1? And what will the MC’s engagement with the chapter leads be like in terms of coaching on member acquisition and best practices? Thanks!
Wallace Mazon
01:28:23
Any RG reading recommendations? Or staff choices?
Katrina Wulf (she/her)
01:28:39
ooh good question, @wallace
Samantha Weaver (she/her/hers)
01:28:41
Thank you all for your time and knowledge! I have to get off zoom now, but I’m super excited to apply and get involved with RG more!!
Adam Roberts, he/him, RG staff
01:28:53
@Tarek and Melissa, here’s what’s in the job description: “Is a relationship-oriented organizer with experience and analysis on working across race, class, gender, and other differences. Has demonstrated at least 2 years of experience (paid or unpaid) developing leaders and mobilizing a base toward collective goals. Ideally has experience organizing students and/or in a college setting.”
Melissa Medin (She/Her)

Tarek Ziad he/him/his
01:29:26
Thank you!
Christina (she/her) RG Staff
01:29:38
Folks have moved roles in RG, I would want to hear from the team how they view that question
Adam Roberts, he/him, RG staff
01:29:39
if that two years is as a volunteer organizer or in a college setting, that’s actually ok — it’s “entry level” *and* we want someone with 2 years organizing experience, paid or not paid
Adam Roberts, he/him, RG staff
01:29:45
outside of college or not
Andrea Vargas
01:30:02
Appreciate "room to grow" statement! Your organization sounds amazing!
Tarek Ziad he/him/his
01:30:11
incredible. fantastic. love it. obsessed. never before seen. iconic.
LaNeyshia Drew
01:30:33
Would it HELP for the Membership Coord to have a technical background since it will be more on the backend?
Melissa Medin (She/Her)
01:30:44
This truly sounds fantastic
Jenna Spencer (she/her)
01:30:52
I’m wondering if you could speak a bit about how you manage the tension of working within what is a largely oppressive system- philanthropy- while also pushing up against and working to reimagine it? How do you navigate internally? With your members?
Sarah F (they/them)
01:30:59
How many full-time and part-time staff are on the team?
Annie Lipsitz (she/her)
01:31:07
can you speak to RG’s relationship to staff compensation determination and transparency?
Christina (she/her) RG Staff
01:31:12
16 full time staff
Adam Roberts, he/him, RG staff
01:31:13

LaNeyshia Drew

Adam Roberts, he/him, RG staff
01:31:52
it’s called EveryAction
Christina (she/her) RG Staff
01:31:53
We have base salary that is determined by location, experience, market conditions. No one at RG makes more than 2 x more than the lowest paid worker
Adam Roberts, he/him, RG staff
01:32:07
related to NGP-VAN, which many unions and political campaigns use
Annie Lipsitz (she/her)
01:32:11
@adam: can say a bit more about the different responsibilities / division of work bw the Membership Coordinator and Membership Director
Talita Elizeu
01:32:18
Thanks, Christina!

From Kayla Malone to Everyone: (7:45 PM)
What is the vision for college organising? Are college chapters working for macro level campaigns? Or is there a vision to organizing to make the university or college a more equitable space through organizing against marketization of higher ed, decolonizing curriculum, more diverse teaching staff, college persistence from lower socio-economic and bipoc students?

Re: "curriculum" for workshops and things of that sort that Katie mentioned, is there any coverage of trauma surrounding money/the way money trauma manifests and affects marginalized folks (if not working with maybe lower class individuals since the focus is on youth w/wealth, maybe presenting that framework to your audience as something to be aware of)?
Mara Blesoff - she/they
01:43:31
@Yahya: Can you give some insight into the priority of skills/strengths for the person you’re hoping to find for the Mid-Atlantic Regional Organizer? E.g. How much are you all valuing familiarity and existing relationships within the region vs. ability to develop new relationships? Experience with major donor fundraising vs. familiarity with classism and healing justice? I’m not trying to create false dichotomies here, just trying to get a sense of the main skills that you think are really important for the role // you’re most looking for. Thank you!
Ella Israeli, she/her
01:44:06
second this!^
Hannah Milagio she/her
01:44:21
What specifically about the data collection and analysis process is RG looking to streamline with the Membership Coordinator?
Jen Senna
01:44:31
In terms of student voice- do we know what skills or experience the students most value or look for in these roles? (If this was answered, I'm sorry- I was still in class so I came late!)
Tarek Ziad he/him/his
01:44:36
^^Seconding Elias' question. Internalized poverty is REAL. Even when you "escape" it and should feel comfortable, the act of spending money can be a true fight. Also interested to hear if that's being tackled
Bailee Gardunio | She/Her/Hers
01:44:42
Does the membership dues structure look different at the college level?
Kayla Malone
01:44:44
Happy to hear that there is a lot of conversations about how universities can be extremely oppressive. Universities are extremely slow to change, and student activism is so important to put pressure on universities.

@Jen and @Becca, student fellows did a survey of our student base early on in the fellowship to see where folks were looking for support — don’t have in front of me, but remember facilitation, campaign organizing, and fundraising skills being on there

Hi everyone! I wanted to ask you all about your own personal experience that led to your positions in RG. Were you members previously? Did you work for other non profits before transitioning here, or are you from varying fields? Thank you so much for hosting this open house. This has been a very informative and illuminating presentation!

@ Tarek I think those dynamics are the things people talk about in class caucuses. For many folks RG is the first steady respectfully paying job they’ve had, and some folks even feel in class transition working here. Our team is more than happy to support new staff in navigating those dynamics
