Alison Whybrow
35:26
There are two sides - what are we stopping and how do we regenerate? It’s not just stopping but what’s the positive impact we can have? how do we build and restore and live within the boundaries of the natural system where we sit?
Alison Whybrow
35:53
Hey - Damon - shall we see whether the Lamb works for our next ‘Green Drinks?’ What do you think?
Damon Hart-Davis

Carbon cost of shipping across UK similar to shipping from China to UK.

Damon Hart-Davis
39:55
In fact, getting it from UK warehouse to your home probably as much as the leg from China to the UK.
Alison Whybrow
41:12
That’s amazing Damon - it’s complex isn’t it? What makes it so carbon heavy to ship across the UK - that doesn’t make logical sense

In terms of the public do you not just think it will pass as an area of interest.. aka why should we do anything when the likes of Boris fly back from CoP26 via private jet.. and with no real China and Russian interest can we actually do anything?
Damon Hart-Davis

GLA has stuff going on at the moment. I think that ECA Enhanced Capital Allowances will be helpful in many cases.

Problem with Electric Vehicles- no sound so can be dangerous for pedestrian and cyclists?!
Alison Whybrow
47:41
Tried driving from Worcester to Surbiton in an EV with a 70 mile range - took 7 hours - because of waiting for the one working charging point at service stations behind the two other cars waiting in line…. Hmmm. Have to go for small battery capacity as it’s for family and girls to learn to drive.

Some new EV designs emit a small engine hum at low speed.
Kat

EV have artificial noise below 18mph to alert pedestrians. We have been using EV for servicing our clients over the last 4.5 years and it works great
Alex Hughes
49:31
Its about WIP and doing everything we can within budget and as Adam said making sustainable procurement choices from here on in
Alison Whybrow
49:34
Thank you Adam
Kat
50:39
It involves bit more planning if a re-charge is needed, but it makes us a lot more sustainable, it's a continuous work and we have moved to charge renewable only, but public chargers we can't unfortunately control atm.
Kat
51:28
I have spent considerable time looking for recycled envelopes, but putting a little more effort we will encourage the correct market growth in sustainability
Damon Hart-Davis
51:32
Alison: yes, but also get one of the checklists of things that cause heat loss such as uncontrolled ventilation.
Alison Whybrow
52:06
@Kat - you know the parking website / app where you can book people’s drives to park on. I wonder how easy it would be to create an app for EV charging at home installation points - or is there one already in the market?
Kat
53:03
I have not seen one, but the charging points areas are growing rapidly, only shame is some are just too expensive to use other than in emergency
Damon Hart-Davis
53:19
There are a few schemes like this now running with charging points in lamp posts: https://www.earth.org.uk/note-on-ubitricity-EV-mobile-MPAN.html

So in Kingston near our office a fast charger which is charging per minute, my first surprise was over £20 when I plugged in. Alternative is in ASDA carpark, but it's super slow and only 2h parking so it's not sustainable for us to keep the car in Kingston as we can't recharge while parked
Kat
58:47
The issue is with mindset of people who are driven by profit instead of sustainability first

Some people think you are trying to save at a price level not understanding it about protecting our planet. I am into recycling clothes as in clothes banks for children and families.

So many ways to make a difference, small and large, definitely will keeping on with the efforts I’m making and review what else can I do. Would love to see people (the consumer) demand changes from the businesses that can only see supply and demand as an easy excuse not to do something. Great session today, thank you to the speakers 👍🏻Lots to take away.

If there was manufacturing in the Uk or the EU we could boycott goods we buy which have a high carbon foot print. This is a big problem affecting a change, in my opinion. Check the Energy Rating of large electrical goods we buy.
