29:15
Quote was from The Artful Edit by Susan Bell.
Heather Alexson
29:37
Thanks! That was something I want embossed on my brain!

29:39
The Artful Edit is an AMAZING resource.

I used to always switch the word “accommodate” and “camaraderie” (I finally learned these spellings in my fifties. :))
Julie Bogart
31:35
I would pick a different word for each one to avoid having to remember how to spell them.

33:37
I must say, Joyce Carol Oates’ has quite an OVER-usage of parentheses in the book I am reading right now LOL
Vijayata Hirani
33:44
But isn’t it like salt? If you use too much punctuation or not enough… then you notice it.
Julie Bogart
34:03
Yes, true. We do want good mechanics at the end, but not at the beginning.
Diana Allor (she/her)
34:15
Great point, Vijayata!
Olga Fain
34:18
Never lol, but I do notice when an author uses my style of writing - using long sentences and digressing within that sentence to add more details/thoughts for half a page lol
Julie Bogart
34:29
Olga, LOL!
Darcie Pytel
35:08
This is so helpful, I am learning so much
Amanda Wallace
35:13
“Competency, not perfection”. Ahhhh, a sigh of relief.
Julie Bogart
35:16
That’s great Darcie.
Lindsay Kirsch
35:24
I have kids that are in middle school - public schooled until the last year. I want to help them break out of everything they ever thought about writing (because they HATE writing as a result). How do I help them and where do we start moving forward as homeschoolers?
Julie Bogart
35:59
Lindsay, a great place to start is with our online class Brave Writer 101 or with one of our bundles. The Writer’s Jungle will help you help your kids and is the Ur text of Brave Writer.
Amanda Wallace
37:34
I’m saddened, because I just feel like my dyslexic high schooler will never be able to get to writing proficiency:(
Julie Bogart
38:36
Amanda, it is possible but it is a harder road. It’s also good for your child to discover how to get the support needed. I have a friend who dictated his PhD dissertation and had a secretary transcribe and type it. Today’s reality gives us so many more tools to help.
Julie Bogart
38:57
Our program is wonderful for kids with dyslexia. They tend to thrive.
Amanda Wallace
39:19
Thanks for the encouragement!
Jeanne Faulconer (she/her)
39:20
Amanda, that’s so hard. I do know teens who have gotten there later than you would expect. Leaning on strengths can really help.
Rebecca Pickens (she/her)

“Leaning on strengths”, such a wonderful reminder for me going into the coming school year.
Sharon Ankerich
39:58
Yay Julie! I tell mom after mom that example all the time! It totally changed my thoughts about writing! Paradigm shift!!!!!! 🙌🏻
Mags Summers
40:15
As a dyslexic with multiple post-graduate degrees, I can reassure you that at dyslexia does not prevent proficiency. It just requires that children learn to edit AFTER writing, rather than limiting themselves, just as Julie and Brave Writer are recommending...
Jeanne Faulconer (she/her)
40:35
We talk about leaning on strengths a lot - and how to do it - in Brave Learner Home - if you are a member.
Julie Bogart
40:39
Mags thanks for that wonderful experience that you shared.
Anna Bartlett
41:39
Amanda, I use voice recognition software, there are some very accurate versions available. I used it for my degree, all exams etc.

I have 2 teens, 15 1/2 and 14, that need help with writing, but need a fun class in order to do that. What class/es would be suggested ?
Vijayata Hirani
42:27
What I struggle with is not knowing if I can edit well myself/offer better ideas for the writing in our collaborations.
Carol Burns
42:35
My homeschooled k-12 dyslexic brother just got his PhD in Linguistics! Things clicked for him in his early 20s!

I have a 17 year old special needs child who is homeschooled. He is excellent at expressing himself verbally but not when asked to put pen to paper. We have purchased the Bravewriter and were not successful. He is still unable to "write". He wants to graduate HS and go to college. How can I help him get there? He is a grammar troll and loves mechanics but not the "writing a paragraph"....please kindly advise.
Amanda Wallace
47:35
Will this inservice be completed in enough time to connect to the 1:00 session?
Julie Bogart
47:38
Emmanuel, we would love to help you get unstuck. Can you tell us which programs you are using?
Julie Bogart
47:44
Amanda, yes.

Arlene, depends on the skill set. If your 9 year old is an eager write, yes. I do think you could do many of the FO projects. That program lasts more than a year so you can pick and choose.
Julie Bogart
56:04
You can also do some of the Partnership projects again with different topics.
Arlene Sluchak

Julie Bogart
01:00:57
Any bundle purchase (even with the coupon code) will get you into Brave Learner Home. It’s a REAL deal.

Nadia Mendenhall
01:02:56
My 9 year old is listening with me and she said the example of your son writing about his video game has majorly inspired her. I'm grateful for that inspiration today! She's a hesitant writer, so we're still using Jot It Down, but it's really making a difference!
Julie Bogart
01:03:04
No. The price is per bundle! And you can teach multiple levels with on bundle. :)
Carol Burns
01:03:06
I was going to wait until my tiny human is eight, but I think we might go ahead and dabble in a dart this year, just to get our feet wet! Charlotte’s Web would totally correlate with our county fair!

Cindy, All the bundles include The Writer’s Jungle digital product. That’s what the online class Brave Writer 101 covers.

Sharon Ankerich
01:05:37
I think my biggest question is how to incorporate all these wonderful things into our learning day. Type A probs
Jennifer Richards
01:05:58
Thanks, Jeanne! Brave Writer has been so good for my son to open up a little more to writing again since we switched to homeschooling in January (not to mention the books have been phenomenal to read together), but it feels so unstructured that I get nervous that it will be complete enough for 8th grade next year and possibly beyond.
Julie Bogart
01:06:03
Sharon, that’s what we hope we’re helping you with in Brave Learner Home. Definitely reach out for help!
Cindy Clark
01:06:23
I am almost in tears because of how excited and relieved I am that BW is so adaptable to my reluctant learner!

Are classes on Brave Writer Home recorded for us in souther hemisphere?
