46:32
we had questions and felt curious about intercepting land-buying processes and the potential there for land rematriation, locally where we each live individually

46:47
Feeling like I don’t know enough about the original stewards of the land that my Jewish family has called home for 5 generations

48:05
We reflected on the loss/ confusion of having a tangled identity, and having our traditions / rituals taken from us

48:59
There is a beautiful burial mound of the Calusa people preserved and taken care of where I live

49:34
we talked about how these stories can be so unfathomable--the time that has passed since colonization began, the way that colonizers' names have overtaken indigenous names, the plants that haven't been grown. we also reminded ourselves of the steadiness of trees and mycelium networks

49:39
we talked about how learning true history in schools needs to be promoted and protected and how recognizing/dismantling false narratives that we are taught growing up is so important

49:48
sitting with how "romanticized" the missions are in CA and how they are a point of pride and beauty for mainstream/white America- and the depth of falsehood that is...and feeling into the grief of the fact that the Ohlone people built them, and then were imprisoned in them...and their choice was to be imprisoned or die without land. it's devastating- and the fact that Ohlone folks have survived and are regenerating is incredible.

50:19
Talked about time and parallels between now and 400, 800 years ago and what some plants and beings (trees) must have witnessed. Trying to fathom that and the feelings surrounding that (heavy, grief).

51:16
Felt a lot of tension and resonance around having had ancestors experience much of the same oppression, while now benefiting off of this same oppression as a settler.

"dismantling false narratives"

01:06:41
^^^ yes. so grateful that the truth and history are reaching more people...so we can begin shedding the lies that we were fed, and step into knowing and holding the truth.

01:06:59
@Xena, putting things into perspective especially when it comes to time

01:07:42
@Emma, echoing "tangled identity"

01:07:53
My family directly benefitted from a Spanish Land Grant in California and we are still farming the land today. I am seeking education and actions to take moving forward regarding land back & rematriation
