What if any data indicate the percentage of homeless people in Santa Monica were living in Santa Monica prior to becoming homeless?.
Sue Himmelrich, Santa Monica
25:37
We don't have the numbers for Santa Monica specifically, but in LA County in the 2019 count, 80% had been in LA County more than 5 years and 61% had been here for more than 10 years.
Mathew Millen
27:03
The State Housing Dept. rejected the Housing Element because 1) the City cannot build more low income housing in the Pico Neighborhood and 2) and Housing Element failed to show where between Wilshire and San Vicente Blvd the City would build 3000 units of Low income housing, Health and Safety Code 8899.50 Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing . So where in Wilmont will the city build 2000 units of low income housing?
Alissa Finerman
28:41
How does the proposed transfer tax compare to other areas such as Bev Hills, Pac Palisades etc?
Sue Himmelrich, Santa Monica
30:08
LA City is doing a parallel measure right now. So that's PP, Brentwood etc.
Alissa Finerman
30:24
Why do we combine homelessness and schools and not separate the two?
Lynn S
30:50
What about affordable retirement housing for seniors ?
John Medlin
31:48
SM and Statewide the number of students in the public schools is DECLINING sharply. Does it makes sense to give the first $10MM for the SMMUSD which seems committed to making new buildings for fewer students.
Leslee Holden
33:18
The Affordable housing requirements don’t sound affordable to me,
Alissa Finerman

Other questions? Please put in the chat. thanks

CA is #18 among the states in per pupil funding. Santa Monica is 30% above the CA average, that would place it at #8 nationwide. S&P has said SM is exceptional in the state in the amount of additional funds the school district gets. Why does the district need more funds?

40:48
Isn’t it a fact that the subsidized housing must be open to all comers, not just Santa monica residents? Why should Santa monica pay for outsiders?
leslie
41:09
If I wanted to volunteer to help get support for this ballot initiative, who would I contact?
Mathew Millen
41:34
where in Wilmont will the City build 2000 units of low income housing? because it can no longer be built in the Pico Neighborhood
John Medlin

"As Larry Sand documents in a recent California Policy Center article, “After a six-day teacher strike in January 2019, the district and union settled on a contract that many questioned. Now, a year later, LAUSD officials admit that they spend $18,788 per student. But in a mid-January interview with EdSource, school superintendent Austin Beutner indicated that the district gets just $16,402 from the state to educate each child.”https://californiapolicycenter.org/californias-k-12-spending-exceeds-20000-per-pupil/

What other revenue-raising options have been investigated before a direct tax on the residents was decided upon? Why has not revitalizing our commercial areas such as the Promenade and Downtown become a priority given the amount of money that can be generated?

47:46
You are taxing the rich. They have the incentive and the resources to pay attorneys to get around this tax. Example: Michael Dell bought the Miramar hotel without a property tax increase. I think this tax will fall only on the uninformed.
Marc Verville
50:55
Partnerships are especially suited to changing ownership without recording title changes.
John Medlin
51:55
Dell "bought" Miramar in a three=part process, one which was a non-taxable like-kind exchange.

EVD went to the same school of manners as the Mayor: condescending tone cutting off a caller she knows doesn’t buy the ill-conceived ballot measure. Because… you know, the wine discussion awaits… #Civility #PowerTrip #Censorship
