Great point ~ High dosage tutoring -- can it be scaled with technology
Beth Mills
01:37:02
Once again -looking for cost efficient ways to provide the high dosage, high-quality tutoring to a larger scale.
Lydia Logan, Digital Promise
01:37:56
High dosage tutoring has great potential. We must be mindful of not falling into an extended “drill and kill” mode can calling it high dosage tutoring.
Sarah Torian
01:38:21
GLR Learning Tuesdays has been exploring the potential for scaling high-dosage tutoring in several recent online sessions. Check out the first here from last DEcember here: https://app.clipglr.org/collection/6dd9dbb3-7b03-4df5-b54e-6970f224c0e1/post/e2bd21e7-b834-483a-be2e-8f18450e02a4

@Lydia and Beth - totally agree. Check out SummerCollab - they use a near peer high dosage tutoring model that leverages high school and college students in a way that providers personalized literacy and SEL supports. They train college and high school students on how to support K-5th graders 1:1 and focus on connection and joy as well as targeted lessons. Strong data for three years. Its called the Literacy Corps. (SummerCollab.com to check out this model for this - feel free to email Cat@SocialContract if you'd like support establishing this model in your state)

Yes - it’s Important to think proactively about including diverse populations - not to just create in English and make translations an afterthought. I love hearing this word “inclusive” in your response, Amanda :) Thanks, everyone!
Beth Mills
01:51:27
I see the value of apps to provide access to books for students. However, I would be particularly cautious with regard to our 0-5 students. There is just too much research regarding the potential dangers of too much screen time at this early age on brain devedlopment. Birth to 2 would be fine to allow
Beth Mills

parents to access age-appropriate reading material to read to students. I just see a need be cautious with theamount of screen time prior to Kindergarten. It's a balancing act.
Maria Alvarez- Common Sense Media
01:54:29
We, at Common Sense Media, follow the AAP (American Academy of Pediatrics) guidelines for screen time. The latest recommendation only allows for limited video conference time for kids 2 and younger. .. And yes @beth balance is important for all us, especially the youngest ones.
Beth Mills
01:55:04
Great response - so appropriate. THANK YOU!
Sonya Wright
01:56:08
yes how do we move from screen to in person?
Fernando González
01:56:12
@Beth Mills: Certainly, Beth. We make sure to provide information to parents about screen time with little ones and emphasize and provide guidance around the importance of the **interactions** that parents have with their children. The books on our app, for example, are geared towards children 3 and up, and we actively encourage and inform parents and caregivers about how they can get their hands on physical books at their local library.
Beth Mills
01:56:40
Wonderful!
Maria Alvarez- Common Sense Media
01:57:22
There are great ways to leverage technology with young kids as Amanda said. Asking kids to tell you about their favorite TV or streaming shows, for example. Listen to them, help them describe what they saw, what they love about this . … If the tech tool provides and nurtures interactions among caregivers and kids that is ideal, and a way to support young kids healthy development
Beth Mills
