reading alot of "hostility" posts these days about tourism . . . on fb especially . . . ( I recognize that other SoCa locations are esperiencing similar reactions . . . ) ... in gest, what are people drinking???
Hi Matt, You are saying “in California” does this mean there is no advertising outside of California right now?
Does MLT have data on number of visits/clicks to the website?
Will Deb pls update us on the current status of the Welcome Center, and any future opening plans? Thx
Speaking about hostility, this article is worth a read: https://apple.news/ArexxCFigQF6C6S0jFN_oZg
Deb - what is the status LEOs on the forest?
Great. I will follow up with you directly afterwards. Thank you.

Is there a phone number to call to report FS infractions?
Hi Deb, There are a lot of people out of work, have you discussed expanding staff for help of enforcement? Or is that even an option?
Why can't we limit the number of nightly rentals and hotels during the pandemic? Can we go back to 50% or 75% capacity? Even for a short period of time?
I find just the opposite at Snowcreek. Guests have been very nice and appreciative.
I want to have Deb thank her team for the control efforts at June. we run the kayak rental company and things were getting out of hand. it is back to its normal beautiful beach with room for everyone. huge effort and we are super appreciative.
Our dispatch center 760-873-2405 For FS infractions. That is the central location and allows FS/BLM too to dispatch LE
I'm not sure cutting back further on lodging is the answer. Those of us legally operating are answering a lot of questions, trying to educate guests, cleaning up after guests and managing the overall number of guests actually staying at our properties.
Everyone I’ve encounter is happy and grateful to be in the Sierra. Its disturbing that some locals are getting “Hostile” to visitors. I think many more people will enjoy the Sierra in the future after having a good experience here. Yes everyone is emotionally stressed…We can’t have the NIMBY attitude..sorry its a “Free Country” still…:)
In the future maybe have registration for certain trailheads like Coldwater and Rock Creek, like they have in Yosemite..:)
Will Dan pls touch on the MLTPA ambassador program being launched? thx
Question for Deb Schweizer - can we not operate the welcome center with limits on people in the center at any given time like other retail shops in town? Or even setting up an outdoor information center?
For Brianna with MLCC: What are the hours of the PPE distribution Tuesday and do businesses need to put in an order in advance?
10am to noon. No ordering in advance. First come, first serve.
Question for Matt- how much money/funds will Visit Mammoth allocate for staff to help support the forest service especially in regards to Reds Meadow and the June Lake area. If you’re inviting all these people here then you need to help support the folks who are actually on the group dealing with all these visitors
The FS is extremely under staffed and I know the town helps with restrooms in town, but that is not enough
We have two programs running:
FYI - MLTPA is looking for volunteers and paid employees to staff their Trail Host Program.
1) Town Ambassador program that is focused on going and meeting with businesses - provides information, education, define needs and ways to address. 2) we also respond to and do spot check where we have complaints of poor behavior for lax protocols. 2) we are ramping up a "trail" host program through our Trails program through our trails manager Joel Rathje - firstname.lastname@example.org - for more information and/or if you are interested in volunteering
Matt, I do understand that we are pushing our message for wearing masks and being responsible, which is great. However, the pictures in these show what everyone in LA wants: outdoors to themselves. The picture with the line drawings you showed, had a couple all by themselves with the Minarets in the background. That seems to be inviting, in my opinion. Without changing message, could we consider removing those background images during the crisis? I don’t know if it will change much from the visitors coming, but maybe it would not encourage visitation, as the current ads still do, in my opinion.
MLT question:N Tahoe is asking people to stay away on weekends. Tuolumne County is also now asking people to stay away.In addition to responsible travel messaging does MLT have any plans for this sort of “stay away” messaging to help mitigate crowds?

I want to publicly applaud Emily Bryant at MLT who is the sole person fielding phone calls, complaints, and inquiries for both MLT and FS visitor inquiries (I think). I wouldn’t want that job right now!
What is the rule for camping in the forest? Is it open for camping anywhere? I know they aren’t suppose to have campfires.
I’ve always thought that any campfires were problematic in the forest..:)
and the rule for camping in shady res area, supposed to be 4 miles out but they are not.
Vons remains a large concern. There is no crowd control at the door, as we have seen at any other grocery store in these times (one in, one out). For the safety of customers AND employees, can anything be done about this?
WHAT ABOUT HELP IN JUNE LAKE AND LEE VINING, ETC. NOT JUST MAMMOTH
I'm looking on my phone on hospital "covid update and info" link. it was last updated June 30th. where can we actually find a more current updated status of the hospital? again, I think knowing where we're at with capacity is very important.
PLEASE BRING THESE SMALLER TOWNS SOME POSTER AND PAMPHLETS TO HAND OUT AS WELL AS A VOLUNTEER TO TALK TO AND ANSWER ALL THE QUESTIONS FOR OUR VISITORS
My concern is mental health of our front line workers. We are putting so much responsibility on their shoulders:- enforcement of mask mandates- enforcement of # of people in their business at any time- mandatory testing with the knowledge that they could be “responsible” for their business closing- working extra shifts or having to do the job of two people due to being short staffed, especially when other employees are quarantining due to possible exposure to a positive case- EVERY day is comparable to the busiest day of the year in past yearsIt seems like there is not anyone who “has their backs”. They are already mentally exhausted. If there is anyone on the panel is who currently doing anything to support our front line workers, can yon please detail what you are doing? And what MORE can we do?
I agree with Alisa’s comment about Vons. Can the TOML and other agencies put some pressure on them to enforce #s, entrance, masking, cleaning carts, etc. I think that’s where a lot of local dismay comes from as well!
Thx Dan for creative thinking on Welcome Center!!
I was happy to see more speed limit signs in old mammoth and the lakes basin. Thank you to whoever implemented that. Also, more MLPD up to the lakes. good job!!
This past week we met with local manager, regional and state reps from Vons on the issues noted here. We'll be looking to see what changes are made following that discussion.
I would like to thank everyone addressing our concerns. Special thanks to John, Deb and Dan.

Is it possible for the FS to have a social media (mostly Facebook) presence right now to help. Manage the negative comments and press?
We also had a localized spike in camper visitation with displaced persons from the Iris Fire in Rock Creek last week, both those evacuated and those that had planned on staying there but did not check ahead.
How about if you put up a cal trans digital sign about NO FIRES in undesignated camping areas?
