It’s hard to move now but a person with Disability to get back into the system again but if HCBS was in place now you don’t have to go through the system again

Hope we more 💰

I attended a meeting online through Arizona The Division of Developmental Disabilities. On their website, they say they "empower individuals with developmental disabilities to lead self-directed, healthy and meaningful lives, and that they provide supports and services for eligible Arizonans diagnosed with one of the following developmental disabilities:Autism;Cerebral palsy;Epilepsy;Cognitive / Intellectual Disability; orAre under the age of six and at risk of having a Developmental Disability. What they DON'T tell you is you can only qualify for their services if you need to live in a nursing home.
Jinny Leslie D
35:22
I'm autistic and I don't need to live in a nursing home. I got mad and I told them off.
Mary Angus she|hers NEBRASK LEND
36:11
I think most of the Medicaid waivers are intended to waive nursing home or institutions for intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Jinny Leslie D
36:41
That's why you need to do your research. Connecticut separates the waivers.
Jinny Leslie D
37:06
One for adults with autism, one for intellectual disabilities.
Jinny Leslie D
37:29
The waiting list is the problem.
Jinny Leslie D
39:09
I'm not going to move, I'm going to join my state's task force and make my own law.
Mary Angus she|hers NEBRASK LEND
39:18
Nebraska mostly uses the DD waiver and the Aged and Disabled waiver. There is a traumatic brain injury waiver, but it mostly a single provider. We do not have an autism waiver. We also exclude mental illness from the definition of dd
Mary Angus she|hers NEBRASK LEND
39:43
The waitlist (registry) for dd services is about 3,000 people

39:59
I'm working with a young lady as her supports broker who is thinking about moving. So we are talking about what needs to be thought of before it would be possible.
Mary Angus she|hers NEBRASK LEND
42:57
You need to do your research. I had a man in Florida that had to turn down a job in Nebraska because his son would have to wait for services.
Mary Angus she|hers NEBRASK LEND
43:28
In fact Nebraskans have a hard time finding out info on services, most don't know there are services at all
Jinny Leslie D
44:23
My goal around rights is for every autistic individual in the state of Illinois to receive the appropriate services and supports for their developmental needs.Currently my rights to receive autism services through medicaid are being violated because Illinois has an Autism mandate age cap that gets in the way of me receiving appropriate services and supports for my autism, even though I live on $900/mo disability and have an ASD level 2 diagnosis. My rights are further being violated because I can't receive services through the department of developmental disabilities unless I have an intellectual disability, and/or require an institutional/nursing home level of care. This is not fair because the psychosocial day program I do qualify for does not address my autistic needs because mental health clinicians do not have schooling in autism treatment. I require habilitative treatment such as executive functioning and adaptive skill coaching. This is not currently found in either vocational rehabilitation or psyc
Jinny Leslie D
45:07
psychosocial rehabilitation. In 2008, "Brianna's Law," was created in Illinois, and now provides coverage for all individuals under age 21 for the diagnosis and treatment of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs) up to $36,000 per year. This law was named for Brianna DiCianni, who was diagnosed with autism in 2006 and was denied coverage by her family's health insurance company. I want to create "Jinny's Law" in Illinois for all individuals over age 21 for the diagnosis and treatment of Autism Spectrum disorders because all autistic individuals, regardless of age, deserve the right to fair access to services and supports in order to have the best quality life possible

Also how quick you can get services also may change from year to year.

My friends and family are here in Ohio.
Karen Topper
48:17
Each state has to put up money to match the federal money they get from Medicaid and sometimes a state will invest a lot of money in new services and other years not so much

I would miss self advocate and special Olympic leadership in Ohio. I am staying in Ohio for now.

I have Medicaid waiver services in Virginia which I acquired after I graduated from high school in a rural community so I would have to apply for those services again if I apply to another state.
