Senate Bill 217 was originally supposed to be called the Elijah McClain policy accountability bill. It was drafted by Terrance Roberts and another person who brought it to law makers in 2019. It gained traction and was accepted by law makers only after George Floyd was murdered.

question: One of the biggest issues I see in not the shooting itself, that the police force is quit to shoot because they have no hand to hand combat training so they shoot first because they just can't take down a criminal with there hands!! Does this bill include monthly training on taken people down!

What is the guarantee we have that officers will keep their camera on , I have witnessed numerous times officers turning their cameras off during sweeps and non-violent protests?

Aurora already passed an No Knock Ban from my understanding.

when was the last time a no knock warrent excuted in Denver or aurora?

If Aurora has performed a No Knock Raid in the past two years they are in violation of their own law. There's no guarantee they are not illegally entering homes without proper consent.

Does this piece of legislation include DOC officers, or persons identifying. As law enforcement to the community such as, bail bondsman, bounty hunters, private investigators with Clert certifications. Etc?

Is the deescalation policy protocol the same for both youth and adults?

I am curious about how senate bill 217 addresses the officer penalties once misuse or abuse of force has been made. for instance, suspensions, tracking misuse of force, and how police pensions are impacted by civil lawsuit cases?

Why does it appear that when a white person shoots it out with police they get arrested. A black person gets killed running away.

Where are the Chaplains within either Departments?

I saw a device on television of an invention of an item when used is like a teaser but it does not electrify a person it shoots a rope out to tie them up. Is something like that worth looking into.

What is being done to make it where our people feel safe to even call the police to handle situations that we perceive require police interaction?

I know I can't call the police if I needed to. I'm more scared of them then the situation and that is the problem.

Black and Brown police kill people too, mainly people of color unfortunately. We need to address a culture of racism, sexism, and violence in general in policing. Two officers of color stood there while George Floyd was murdered.

Why is it no district police department in either Denver or Aurora does not have a visible Chaplain to help deal with Crisis Response??

There should be money directly put into schools to encourage black boys to become officers! Like a student police club or something!

To my understanding about 1000 officers get convicted every year, what is the number in Denver?

Our General Fund is nearly $1.5 Billion - Our Public Safety Budget is $566,000,000.00 That's 39% percent of our General Fund. Only 2% goes to Housing. Nearly half of our unhoused neighbors are Black young men and women in the metro area, followed by our Latino/Chicano neighbors. We had 96 homicides last year, mainly youth of color. Housing Cost and Youth Violence is decimating the Black Community in Denver. We can do better Denver. Save Our City!

We have been waiting for that to happen in regards to Ride alongs.

Onboarding seems to be an issue. I have heard about some very negative experiences with young Black youth interested in becoming police officers. When they are discouraged from being themselves and encouraged to turn their back on those you live and have grown up with, youth are mot motivated to become officers

A budget is a measure of a city priorities, when you value profit over people, its The people who suffer! Black people suffer the most as result of these policies! We need people who have experienced the things these politicians are talking about changing! Redirecting the aim for us!

There's to much funding being dispersed to continue making up excuses for historical actions and policies that are specific and intentional. The police force was designed for the behavior they display everyday.
