42:07
Sooooo we have been told to create a FB profile to send messages to victims via messenger when their numbers are disconnected
Adrian Camacho
43:39
can we get a copy of the presentation?
Jeannette Adkins
44:44
A question that has come up about this one is whether programs who use social media platforms to announce events or provide education information would be prohibited from doing that. Those are valuable services for survivors but discussion specific information or discussions with clients on that a platform should not occur but moved to PM or phone calls. And of course, advocates shouldn’t use their personal social media to interact with clients.
sara krekelberg
44:58
we've had quite a few issues come up at our agency (I work at a dual domestic and sexual violence crisis center) with individuals with disabilities. Understanding every agency had their own polices/procedures to follow but if an individual is being seen and discloses abuse, ethically how do we determine if they are disabled to report if there isn't any paperwork associated.
Arlene Vassell
46:12
Hi Callie and Priya! Great to see you both. Does everyone receive consistent or ongoing anti-racism training?
Karias Arias
46:22
Not personal profile
Karias Arias
46:52
we mainly use it to ask people to contact our office,
Emily Kakar
47:08
That happened to me...one of my friends' daughters was being beaten up, and I contacted 911 without even telling her. Was that the right thing? This was a couple of years back when I was in school...
Emily Kakar
47:20
through FB chat
Karias Arias
47:57
it does not even have our picture
Lisa Tieszen
48:50
The Q & A box seems not to be working.
Singleton Wyche
49:04
Will this new ethics training be provided as an update to the ethics training that we’ve already signed off on in our personal jurisdictions? In other words, are we required to sign off on this new document to be considered up to date?
Shannon Collins
49:53
Can you read back the questions? We can't see this question you are addressing. They may be talking about mandatory reports for people with disabilities
Lisa Tieszen
51:24
The OVC Model Standards includes a set of Ethical Standards, as well. Was there any coordination in updating these for NOVA? How shall we, as advocates, consider each set?
Heather Brooks
51:48
Can this document be signed by advocates within my agency even if they are not credentialed? To use as best practice for advocates?
Arlene Vassell
52:35
HI Riya! Glad to be here! :-)
Arlene Vassell
52:47
*Priya
Callie Stewart
52:53
Hi Heather! Yes, please! You are welcome to use this document as you need.
Ruthie Pedregon
53:29
Any intention of that being a future requirement for certification?
Karias Arias
54:48
I tell my victims that we are not allowed for safety reasons, ours and theirs
natalie Colbert
56:04
Can you use your home phone in emergency situations?
Lisa Tieszen
56:49
Thanks , Priya!
Callie Stewart
56:49
Please find the COE and information about the ethical dilemmas here: https://www.trynova.org/office-for-advocacy-ethics/
Lisa Vetter
59:15
You can use *67 to block your phone number from being seen. I know it works on a cell phone.
Bianca Gomez
01:03:19
We were able to get Google Voice and it gives you a separate number to be able to contact clients/victims free of charge.
Royall Bryan
01:04:10
A Facebook PAGE cannot send a message to individual users. You can only RESPOND to messages using Facebook Business. The victim would have to message the VW page FIRST; otherwise you would have to use a Facebook PROFILE to message someone.
Kristen Runyon
01:04:39
We do use Google Voice too and it is nice to be able to text the clients also.
Callie Stewart
01:05:31
Hi Royall - yes that is true. But the agency needs to set up a separate professional account to make that page so I believe you can use that account to message.
Singleton Wyche
01:06:26
We’ve been using Google voice to contact clients throughout the pandemic while working from home. It is great to be able to text clients as well! It’s a great option!
Royall Bryan
01:06:38
Sorry - I thought I was sending to both attendees; I didn’t realize it was only set to panelists automatically. I just didn’t want people going into Facebook creating a business page thinking they could contact victims with an agency page when in reality they have to create a profile instead. Hopefully the social media presenter will cover that in the presentation in a few weeks!
Callie Stewart
01:11:04
I see! Thank you!!
Joahn Sperry
01:11:20
This is wonderful information

Ruthie Pedregon
