"tithe" is a dirty word for a lot of folks.

01:02:18
Let some folks in your congregations talk about how God has blessed them once they start tithing - it's not "give and God will bless you", but it seems He does. We tested Him 26 years ago. We tithed for the first time (in fear and trembling) and I got awarded a work contract the next day that was (after taxes we would pay on the income) within $10 of what we had tithed. God has a sense of humor.

01:02:38
The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof; the world and those who dwell in it.

01:03:12
Cain gave SOME, but Abel gave of his best.

01:04:38
We had a young pastor years ago that preached "the church doesn't need your money but you have a need to give in response to God's generosity to you"

01:14:27
How do church officials know if a congregant is not tithing?

01:14:28
Great idea to use the electronic-giving card for those who give through the giving app or other ways.

01:16:23
Have always wondered if tithing is 10% before or after taxes. Can't find a Bible verse that clarifies.

01:16:50
Albertina - you may not actually know who is and who isn't tithing. The Discipline grants authority to the pastor to review the giving records of members, but not all use/practice it. I think the better thing is to hold up the tithe as the standard/goal of Christian generosity and encourage people to live it. Ultimately, whether they do or don't is between them and God, but you've made the standard practice clear.

01:18:05
From: Elizabeth, Hickory Grove UMC - Please never use a credit card for your offering. Use the money that God has made sure you have for the month. Always give from the heart.

01:20:01
Identify best practices that convince millionaires to tithe or to practice to whom much is given much is required.

01:27:25
I have always felt in my heart ; If I don’t give I cannot ask someone else to give.

01:29:19
Elizabeth, Hickory Grove UMC, how can you only receive and never give? People need to think long and hard about giving more than receiving.

01:34:23
there was a question on tithing pre-tax or post-tax. Should we tithe net or gross? I joke that it depends if you want a net blessing or gross blessing! seriously, giving is about giving all we can, not all we have to. so if you can tithe off the net, praise God! And if you're growing and can tithe of the gross, praise God!

01:34:44
Are there any thoughts around a church that received a SBA PPP loan and how to think about whether to repay or apply for forgiveness? Are the districts or conference going to provide any guidance? For example why would a church decide to apply for forgiveness versus repay?

01:35:05
Why we give is important... I like the information on that and that we give to something (God’s mission)

01:36:39
Love the idea of "moving from campaign to culture"

I feel that small endowments generating a few hundred dollars a year tie the hands of a small church. They cannot use the principal and it sits there in times of need in the church or in the missions of the church. Large endowments that generate many thousands of dollars in interest and growth are different. We love and appreciate the zillions of dollars in the Duke Endowment that do so much for all of us. $10,000 in an endowment in a small church that generates $300 - $500 a year seems more useful if the whole $10,000 is made available for use. Just my two cents on the different sizes of endowments.

01:44:24
Donor Advised Funds also help to group deductible gifts for maximum tax benefit while spreading gifts to church

Please confirm that when the deferment of principle payments on loans during pandemic ends loans will restart with the same balance and will merely be extended the same number of months the deferral took place.

I like to think of the local church's payment of apportionments as our church's "tithe"
