So, maybe it was a polarization dilemma...people first saw children as evil and need to be shaped...so, next, maybe imperfect view...was to try to erase that by seeing them as cute and needy....maybe going overboard on the other side....Maybe my comment comes from the fact that I am smack dab in working class, aspiring to middle class values. Egads!

Stay with Candy...she is about to talk about the paradigm shift that brings hope!

My daughter was essential non verbal at 3, could not walk or eat food by mouth due to her very premature birth, many hospitalizations, 2 years of Oxygen support. She is now running around, talks fluently, eating almost all food by mouth. A lot of great teachers and therapists helped her get there. She has benefitted from a fully inclusive public school called the Henderson Inclusion School.

Excellent point! Embrace mistakes

I deliberately make mistakes. I do it to encourage my students to double check what I tell them, and I reward them for catching me

A big part of a “Safe Place” is the safety to make mistakes
Linnea Schluessler
01:52:41
When my daughter and I access true flow in our play/education it is always as equal participants. It took me a loooong time not to default to "let me know show you how to do this so you don't make the mistakes I did, this is my gift to you" (This made sense to a girl who was raised thinking that I shouldn't do something unless I can do it "right". Now my gift is, let me be full participant with you as we both make the mistakes we need in order to learn and grow together. What a transformative celebration.
