How do schools and districts know confirmed and suspected student cases, and staff cases? Are schools directly testing? Are they asking families to self-report? If self-reporting, how reliable is that?

Several questions about how we are confirming. These are self-reported by the schools. We ask about both confirmed and suspected because of the concern that with limited testing some cases will not be confirmed.

Q: Once these case rates are available through the dashboard, do they connect with clear guidance from the CDC, or Department of Ed, or local health authorities, about whether schools should close or reopen? Is someone saying, for example, you must close schools if your state’s case rates are higher than X% ?

I have observed that my team has a degree of confidence of pandemic related decisions and recommendations in the midst of so much ambiguity when they are able to ground decisions and recommendations to our Board in data. The panel is helping greatly in this regard. We will see how the conversation goes this upcoming Monday.

We have not engaged parents in data collection efforts. They seem to have their hands full with virtual learning responsibilities. We have identified staff members who are leading this charge. Of course, they may engage others and parents as they deem appropriate.
