So wonderful to hear from Vanita and reconfirm LCCHR’s commitment to disability rights! Question for Vanita- with at least 55,000 people with disabilities dead in 14,500 nursing homes and other congregate facilities in the past 140 days, how can we work together NOW to save people who haven’t yet died from COVID?

its time to take action

We are talking about intersectionality when we still have glaring problems with a hierarchy of disability visible in our own organizations. How many CILs have Paid staff with developmental or intellectual disabilities? We have made significant progress for inclusion of people with physical and sensory disabilities but IDD are being left behind. Lets not forget that one of the slogans of the Disability Rights Movement was "our bodies are broken, not our brains."

What states have shown the use of alternative formats for vote by mail? Are braille and large print ballots being mailed? Are instructions in plain language?

@Rose, MPower Me is working to specifically increase IDD engagement and inclusion in CIL activities by addressing the intersection Vanita described with use of personal tech. Please visit our exhibit, website, or email me at maria@mpm.care.

Mental Health Consumers and the older population need to be paid more attention to.

@Rose I think as the WA State President of a IDD Self Advocacy Org and an IL Worker the key Is to empower all people with disabilities including those with IDD. We may need to look at job descriptions and responsibilities. We also need to make self Advocates are at the table when state policies and decisions. We do though have to be careful not to focus on one disability over another. We are better them we work together.
