How many years can I stay as President. Is there a term limit?

@Diane it's in your bylaws. Typically it's two years in a row, but the max is 3.

If you take a year off, you can come back ;)

In Alachua County we have President meet ups with the feeder schools.

We have a presidents group in Hillsborough.. Im thankful for it! I have most of my questions answered there and get tons of advice.

We are meeting this Monday at 7 pm. Join us if you are able.

Seconding Juan's question. There was a security incident in our county, so they changed where all the student's can't receive external emails, so we now have no way to contact them. :(Admin will sometimes send to teachers to put in the student portal, but they aren't getting the messages like they use to.

(Middle School here also)

Adding that we're also not allowed on campus or able to send flyers.

Covid has had the silver lining of bringing forward new parents who want to advocate for the safety of their school. We found them on line through our FB group and invited them in.

I suggest to start a conversation with parents about what move them, what is their big WHY? They find out that their big why is their children and their success. they the question comes wouldn't make sense to be in the direction of your why? PTA is the place to be.

We opened up memberhub to all when we did registration to our Winter Event. We increased who we can contact by nearly 200 !!

Great point Shelly in letting people know what your local PTA is doing. And that evens goes a step further when asking for membership.

Change is good and it is okay... I have been preaching grace all year and it is the same with new presidents. A new President should do it a bit different...we are all different and that's okay. We cant grow without change.

same here. I just knew my why and jumped in.

also, start an IT committee. they are the ones who are helping us to communicate.

My first PTA seemed click-ish because they would all go into a room at drop off...so for weeks I would hang around near the room after drop off hoping they would ask. Finally they had their 1st general meeting...and I went to every single PTA Board member and told them I wanted in.

When they realized it they were super excited....they wanted people but didn't realize what they were doing.

The biggest complain is no time no money. we stopped asking parents for money and turned to the corporate community for exposure with in the xxx number of families...

Elementary

Chelsea- we have done a lot of drive thru events and the kids enjoyed it

We have done drive thru events - a businesses sponsored treats we were able to provide to families. We have done a few dine out events as well. We are looking to do a drive in movie night (trying to figure out logistics still). We want to do more programs virtually as well

We have been setting up Photo Prop set-ups on campus…set up after hours, for teachers and students to use at Holiday times.

Spirit nights fundraisers could be drive-thru... just ask the business

Great ideas, Melissa. Drive Thru events are great to impact the community.

also, as fundrising we ask partners to sponsor the Talent Show. no one wins, but show their talent. this has been powerful

We have our first spirit night coming up and Chick-Fil-A said we can't solicit to their guests so that kind of stinks, are there other places that will let you set up a table to promote membership?

Chelsea- we did a cooking event. We had a parent teach how to make crepes. It was a free event that brought people together.

Chelsea... we have had PTAs do a paint night... they did a drive thru to pick up supplies and they did a paint party on zoom

Lori - I think it depends on the business, ask before scheduling! I remember my old unit used to set up a table at PDQ , before I was on the board.
