For those of you interested, here is the link to the GSO website: http://www.gsogri.org The information available there is still quite basic, but we will be workng with the GSO on improving it this year.

I'm very sorry Inma. The map indeed needs an update.

We still have huge Challenges in Africa especially in Uganda in the area of Food Security and Health. How can we fit in your intervention into solving Food insecurity?most Rural Communities experience high level of Poverty and Hunger. it's true that there are some well of families but the big numbers eat one meal per day. and I want to request you for your friendship and Partnership with my Local village Kanungu District Uganda to be an example in your first hand intervention.save our childrenAsk me the Concept Papers addressing economic social and emotional challenges and I send it to you.swegceug@gmail.comthanks

This is a wonderful opportunity to create sustainable partnership and collaboration between Europe and Africa to be able to unleash and use the vast potential of Africans research and innovation.

Africa can gain immensely from the time-tested best practices, technology and knowledge transfer from the vast European knowledge and expertise wealth.

Thanks for these presentations! I found them very insighfull.

What are the features of the legal personalities of ERICs? I have been wondering what of the ERIC structure could translate into African law, where Pan African commercial law is not as well developed as EU commercial law is.
Akum Achu
01:50:25
What influence does this collaboration have over politics in Africa
Minyahil Tadesse
01:51:33
I and my team here in Ethiopia, have developed a prototype of a noble innovation to underpin the healthcare system's medication prescription guidelines. However, we are stuck to scale up due to the budget problem. Is there any means to apply for European based grants that supports innovation in sub-Saharan Africa?
Modou NIANG
01:52:12
the problem of research in Africa is infrastructure. It is necessary to facilitate collaboration between young researchers in Africa and researchers in Africa. So that they continue the research and excel in the advanced fields
Ed Mitchell
01:52:19
Indeed, does feel like sometimes Africa "underestimates" itself. But there is amazing talent to be nurtured and developed for Africa, in Africa.
Emmanuel Salmon (ICOS)
01:52:19
@Lawrence: you can find a lot of information about ERICs here https://ec.europa.eu/info/research-and-innovation/strategy/strategy-2020-2024/our-digital-future/european-research-infrastructures/eric_en
Dominik Sobczak (EC)
01:53:50
@Laurence Norris, indeed, under the link Inma shared you can find a wealth of information - the regulation, practical guidelines, implementation reports, external expert reports, etc.
Emmanuel Salmon (ICOS)
01:53:50
Inma will know better, but I guess the interest of the ERIC solution is to avoid the need for an international treaty between the member countries (which always requires a substantial work)
Werner Kutsch ICOS ERIC DG
01:54:30
Indeed, Gregor, we Europeans need more to listen in this cooperation than to talk.
Ed Mitchell
01:55:48
Interesting question on ERICs. Just as an aside, the ESRF is not set-up as an ERIC. It is set up with an intergovernmental convention at its base, and then effectively as a not-for-profit civil company as the "operational" structure set up in France.
Axel Laurel Tcheheumeni
01:56:17
I am an early career lecturer and researcher in environmental geophysical at Cheikh Anta Diop University in Senegal. From the date I decided to relocated here (9 months), I have written research projects and a plan to put in place a unique geophysical & geological imaging laboratory to enable the students to be trained effectively locally and to foster collaborative projects with EU labs which are more advanced. If you would like to collaborate with me por assisting me in setting up this geo-imaging lab, please do not hesitate to reach out. my email is axel.tcheheumeni@ucad.edu.sn or Tcheheumeni@gmail.com.
Axel Laurel Tcheheumeni
01:58:51
QUESTION: Is there an EU platform which we could reach out to help setting up research infrastructure in Africa? Thanks very much.
Werner Kutsch ICOS ERIC DG
02:03:14
@Axel: you should connect to ESFRI. The current ESFRI Chair, Jana Kolar is in this meeting.
Ngo Loog Kingand Marie Eloge
02:04:34
Do ESRI make science sociale joint - venture ? I am into informal economy.
Ed Mitchell
02:04:41
Super point from Caron - the OPEN SESAME project also addressed training of science administrators in running an RI and in their impact. The lead on this was Frank Lehner at DESY who organised two workshops on that part of RI work.
Modou NIANG
02:06:14
is there a working in nuclear science and application?
Modou NIANG
02:06:26
working group
Dominik Sobczak (EC)
02:07:01
Axel, this is not an easy question to answer. For setting up large scale, international RIs we have a lot exprience at European leve in ESFRI and the European Commission. However, with respect to smaller labs, I'd suggest to identify similar labs in the EU and reach out to them to learn from their experience.
Lawrence Norris
02:07:36
I think I am not speaking out of turn to say that we would love to include the African Bioimaging Consortium as one of our co-organizers or co-conveners of our 14-18 November 2022 conference (by Zoom),
Lawrence Norris
02:08:35
We have lots of friends in the bioimaging biz. The light sources in Asia have a whole thing on synchrotrons and brain imaging, https://synapse-sg.org/I tried to get the director for our 2021 conference, but we could not get schedules aligned.
Caron Jacobs
02:09:33
@Lawrence, I would be happy to engage more about this and find out more about how we can be involved!
Dominik Sobczak (EC)
02:09:35
Modou, at ESFRI there is a working group on physical sciences and engineering. Nuclear research is not at the core of its work. At the Commission we also have a team working on fision and fusion research. At European institutions level, nuclear research is also done at the European Joint Research Centre.
stephen chikwuks
02:10:23
is it possible to include Society for Quality Assurance in Nigeria in your conference via Zoom visual?
Bethel Ukazu
02:11:18
Access - The discussions tried to mention how access to these RIs is supported . However, I still think the bottle necks still lingers , thus a conversation on improved access is expedient and necessary . Would like to learn about actions towards improved access?
Natalie Haley
02:12:51
Instruct-ERIC has a lot of experience in providing open access and we are keen to share experiences
Akum Achu
02:15:30
We can ignore the facts that, they can't be a research infrastructure, research excellence, transfer of technology while women and children are dying everyday in Africa, let's be realistic.
Bethel Ukazu
02:16:01
Regional preference - EU's Geo politics and inclination ;To re-echo @Akum Achu's question , on the influence of EU 's strategic area of Focus. There seems to be focus or preference to some sub region, say for the reason of convenience or strategic positioning …I would like the panels to share some experience of working with other regions like West Africa , where sadly not much is happening in the sense and overall objective of these conversations.
John Eriksson (Euro-Bioimaging)
02:16:44
Related to access, I echo what Natalie stated, open access broad-range services also constitute the modus operandi of Euro-Bioimaging. Feel free to reach out in case you have concrete projects, needs, or consultation requests in mind.
