Thank you John and Robbie! Please continue to show up and be involved :)
Kevin Vargas

Neighbor's sale or remodel impact on nearby properties?
MB
40:12
How can a resident determine when their property was last assessed and/or will next be assessed?
Renee Fall
43:44
Asking for Marge Isom: Can you explain the timeline for when changes (such as a remodel, or a property that was homesteaded becomes an LLC) result in a change in actual taxes? Is this lag time typical for property taxes in MN, other cities?
Matt Clark
44:44
Was the apartment value increase calculated before or after passage of rent control passing?
Mark Rachac
48:29
Luis mentioned the county, city, and ISD 625. Are there other assessment entities? (e.g., library, Met Council)
Tim Morehead
50:23
There always seems to be a balancing taxation of commercial property vs residential properties. How does the city keep this as fare as possible?
Mathews Hollinshead
50:42
Is residential exemption by percentage of value? In other words, as home value goes up, does % go up or stay fixed?
Lindsay Shimizu (she / her)
50:44
I think she means the quintile review
Lindsay Shimizu (she / her)
51:00
With the physical visit
tomro
51:14
Are you involved in street maintenance assessments?
Lindsay Shimizu (she / her)

Gary Martland
52:56
Why aren’t city services, as alley sealing, excludes from property tax as this is a city operational expense.
Gary Martland
54:48
Is there a scale or report that breaks Property Tax out by neighborhood in hard numbers or percent of the total.
Renee Fall
57:00
Are commercial and residential properties taxed at the same rate here?
John Krenik
01:04:14
These seems to be a disparity of the taxes paid to services received!
Kevin Vargas
01:04:45
i'm ok helping out other areas of saint paul that are less fortunate via property taxes :)
tomro
01:04:48
John - I agree. That is the question I tried to raise.
Kevin Vargas
01:05:16
Thank you, both!
Kathy Carruth
01:05:29
Thank you so much for you time tonight!!
Kathleen Anderson (she/her)
01:05:46
Ditto Kevin!
John Krenik
01:06:11
John Krenik would like to speak
Mark Rachac
01:07:30
As a homeowner Kevin?
Kevin Vargas
01:08:52
yes
Lindsay Shimizu (she / her)
01:09:05
I also don't mind paying for quality education even though I don't have any children. We all do better when we all do better.
Kevin Vargas
01:09:23
yeah I don't have kids but happy to help pay for great schools in saint paul!
Lindsay Shimizu (she / her)
01:10:18
But certainly there are inefficiencies in any tax/spending system (and I'm a thrifty lady) so I also understand the desire to make sure money is spent responsibly.
Kevin Vargas
01:13:34
thanks for the report, tom!
Lindsay Shimizu (she / her)
01:16:54
The CEC is looking at some events to potentially raise money for HDC. If anyone has ideas, feel free to send them to me for discussion!
John Krenik
01:20:12
Also the quality of work on Return Court was very poor!
Beverly Brending
01:20:31
Thank you Kathy and Tom!
Lindsay Shimizu (she / her)
01:21:43
Anecdotally, this is what I had read on the Highland FB page. Obviously official confirmation would be great! "New, corrected bills are being sent out and should arrive by the end of the week. New due date is Feb. 11. The office person told me they had sent out 5,000 incorrect bills, and so far 1,500 people have called in."
Matt Clark
01:22:22
That’s great, thank you Lindsay!
Lindsay Shimizu (she / her)
01:22:55
One of our neighbors called in and this is what she reported back
Lindsay Shimizu (she / her)
01:23:12
So obviously grain of salt.
John Krenik
01:25:15
The sealcoat work that was done on Return Court was poor. I called the city and was blown off when I questioned the assessment.
tomro
01:25:36
Did everyone get a street assessment? I don't recall getting one.
Lindsay Shimizu (she / her)
01:26:07
Anyone who had a sealcoating project this year
Kevin Vargas
01:26:27
i didn't get one, tom, so you're not alone
Lindsay Shimizu (she / her)
01:26:31
I mean, plus our yearly street cleaning and sewer assessments, though those came in september
Scott O
01:26:32
My mother-in-law gets an alley maintenance charge annually and she has no alley.
Jeff Stolte
01:26:44
It came earlier this week for me. I had it written on calendar so knew it was coming.
Lindsay Shimizu (she / her)
01:28:15
You can actually search a bit ahead on their website, too, so I also knew the sealcoat one was coming. Though it's unfortunate that a lot of the invoices had incorrect calculations. https://eproperty.logis.org/stpaul/assessments/search
John Krenik
01:28:41
The best action is to put off these assessments and review them so they are correct and more time to pay and not just 12 days.
Kevin Vargas
01:29:41
thanks, Lindsay. looks like i'll have an invoice in august later this year
Lindsay Shimizu (she / her)
01:30:33
Not that I make a habit of looking, but I had forgotten whether I paid the November ones.
Mark Rachac
01:33:40
Thank you four volunteers for bylaw task force.
Kevin Vargas
01:34:02
thanks, mark! if you (or anyone) has feedback or thoughts, then please let us know
Matt Clark
01:34:23
Thank you to the volunteers for joining the Bylaw Taskforce
Kathleen Anderson (she/her)
01:36:34
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
John Krenik
01:38:15
Thank you to the HDC for all you do! Listening to you all and your vision, I see HDC moving in a very positive direction! Jeff Stolte, CONGRATULATIONS! Being a member of the HDC Transportation Committee this has really been a shot in the arm for me! Lastly, Kathy Carruth has really been very helpful to me with my numerous questions and the HDC is LUCKY to have her!
Michelle Doyle
01:39:11
John, Thanks so much for those positive words! We look forward to continuing to work with you on transportation.
Kathleen Anderson (she/her)
01:41:15
Well done CDC
Kevin Vargas
01:48:00
would love to be part of CP spur conversations. we live literally right next to it.
Lindsay Shimizu (she / her)
01:48:50
I love that we're still allowing virtual too--even after Covid19 it's a lot easier for a variety of people to participate.
Lindsay Shimizu (she / her)
01:49:19
Don't have to arrange transportation or child care or getting off work early, etc.
Matt Clark
01:51:29
Thank you Kevin, happy to have your perspective on CP
Michelle Doyle
01:51:56
Thanks Kevin, We’ll be sure to let you know when CP spur discussions are on the transportation agenda.
Kevin Vargas
01:52:56
the article is on the website now "Saint Thomas eyes old Ford Plant as possible site for new athletic facilities" https://myvillager.com/2022/01/05/saint-thomas-eyes-old-ford-plant-as-site-for-new-athletic-facilities/
Mark Rachac
01:55:08
Thank you Kathy for the food scraps update and photos.
Lindsay Shimizu (she / her)
01:56:06
If you can create a FB post about volunteers, I can share it on the larger post announcing the new organics recycling location--might be a good way to get volunteers
Michelle Doyle
01:56:30
I will also share with my neighbors. They are all excited about the new site.
Beverly Brending
01:56:48
Could we have a Sunday blood drive? I am o- and would like to give.
Renee Fall
01:57:14
My comment was about food scraps. Please put the info about how to volunteer to restock and shovel in the newsletter and social media. Lots of people wish to help and it is getting lots of use. Thanks for all who made it happen.
Michelle Doyle
01:57:33
Thanks Renee! I was going to get to you.
Lindsay Shimizu (she / her)
01:58:12
Minnesota appointments commonly fill up. I usually have to book a couple weeks out so another option for people to donate is a good thing.
Renee Fall
01:58:12
I will put it on Nextdoor too
Lindsay Shimizu (she / her)
01:58:21
That would be great--thanks Renee!
Renee Fall
02:07:22
Thank you all for letting me jump in for Marge. She appreciates it. She ended up in flight at this time.
Lindsay Shimizu (she / her)
02:07:35
Thanks for attending Renee!
Lindsay Shimizu (she / her)
02:08:07
Always nice to see some new faces
Renee Fall
02:08:32
I hope HDC can stay all virtual for now for the community’s safety.
