Out of the WPA program in Philadelphia Dox Thrash innovated the print process by invented a process called the Carborundum print. Originally he named the process after his mom and called Ophelia prints

that Aaron Douglas mural is one of 4 murals he did for the 135th street library, now the Schomburg Center, entitled "Aspects of Negro Life: From Slavery through Reconstruction. The other 3 from this series is Aspects of Negro Life: Song of the Towers, The Negro in an African Setting and an Idlyll of the Deep South

The Murals are on display in our Jean Blackwell Hutson Research and Reference Division if you ever come up to Schomburg.

This work is in the Schomburg Collection. We actually have 2 the Plaster and the Bronze. One is in the reading room of the Art & Artifacts Division
