I would love to have Lisa's contact information. Steve Durham is very open about his association with ALEC and states this publicly at meetings. Mr. Durham is very articulate and very well prepared by ALEC. Do we dems have anything at all as well organized as ALEC that provides articulate, well researched talking points.

The person in charge of allocating federal grants to charter schools in Colorado has been Denise Mund, an ultra-conservative aligned with the Independence Institute.

We have two charter schools in Routt County that operate on state and county funds - no tuition. So do we need to define the different kinds of charter schools? Our two charter schools are really quite good. How can we talk about these different kinds of charter schools.?

They also give $ for “career and technology” education - which seems to be going to tech companies rather than students….

Colorado has 51 on-line K-12 schools (41multi-district) with 20,615 students. This is increasing right now.

Ballot 25 is a Neo voucher plan and must be clearly explained or voters will be misled. It means less $ for schools. Wrong!

At the risk of telling everyone about important ways forward that I include in workshops: Yong Zhao, Ted Dintersmith's "What School Could Be (the book), and whatschoolcouldbe.org - His documentary: "Most Likely To Succeed," and any of Pasi Sahlberg' books/website... for practical frameworks to "Prepare Our Kids for LIfe, Not Standardized Tests" as a TED TAlk by Ted Dintersmith demonstrates. And Eric Mazur, Harvard: "Assessment, The Silent Killer of Learning."

Our daughter experienced the testing demoralization, but she overcame it with family support and encouragement from great teachers - she made it through college with a sociology degree and is going back to school on a special program to be a teacher while teaching kids with at Hinkley! Our story isn't typical though.
