46:07
Due to COVID and the new reality, we have huge need for nurses but CCSF is cutting Nursing Department. We’ve had in CA huge problems with wild fire and CCSF is cutting Fire Department. Folks are using more than ever mobile applications, web applications and companies are hiring developers all over the place but CCSF is cutting Computer Science and Computer Networking and IT (CNIT) Departments. By the way, the college holds the title of Excellence in Cybersecurity due to the Cybersecurity program from Computer Networking and IT (CNIT) Department and the cuts might put in jeopardy that title of a group that has simply won an important competition against 4-YEAR COLLEGE STUDENTS! Really a very short-sighted administration that is not looking at the future of what is being requested in the job market!!! Really sad!

54:55
CCSF Dance department helped and encouraged me to become a Dance teacher. I also worked with Immigrants, refugees and folks with learning disabilities. I referred them to CCSF for ESL and other classes. I have been taking classes for years here for my own personal development. This year, I was thinking of going into counseling so I took a Psych class. My teacher was so supportive and helped and encouraged me to apply to grad school. I’m still waiting to hear, but I am learning so much from my classes that I can bring back to my community. The teachers are a lifeline to our city.

CCSF is MORE than a college!I write this as a Ccsf immigrant student and behalf of all immigrants. You wouldn’t realize probably how important is this college for them who came from another country and knew nobody in the city. Ccsf is the first place and first step for us to engage not only English, but also the city, people, neighbors that is like a bridge which connects many people and lets them to get meaningful experiences, knowledge and endless memories. You wouldn’t understand how vital is the CCSF for them who have no money to pursue their dream and career in the dream country. Since you have been living in the Us, you wouldn’t have been understanding how important is to start learning English for foreigners after arriving first day to the new country. I have been telling all my friends how lucky I’m because of the studying at the CCSF since I have moved to this country. Because not only immigrants get benefit from this college but also city and state’s educated resident number accelerate rapidly bec

ccsf has been a stepping stone for many to higher education and fulfilling careers and needs to be retained and maintained. I'm from SFSU and Gov. Newsome reinstated all the money that was initially cut from the CSU budget which put a pause (for now) on faculty/staff cuts to SFSU. However I was appalled to hear what is now being done to CCSF. Where is their funding support and where has the money gone? Why support one unit of education but not another which yet again highlights the ongoing inequity in education. Save and advance ccsf!

58:13
Vick, thank you for fighting for CCSF!

Hi! My name is Sammy. I am a disabled homeless transgender female who is a CCSF student in DSPS classes. When I had no hope at all, DSPS Learning Strategies class through the City College gave me hope. When I had nothing at all, I didn't know where to go. Now that I'm enrolled in my San Francisco City College classes, my teachers are going above and beyond the call of duty. This gives me an opportunity to get my education and better my life as a disabled trans woman who's had a very long hard time. I've been neglected and threatened in some domestic violence my life. I'm pushing myself in my life and educating myself. The City College has gone above and beyond the call of duty. They take their time to help me with my education. You cut these services, and look who you're going to hurt. You will hurt the disabled community and a disabled trans woman. You are denying us our fundamental educational rights and freedom to be empowered. You are denying us a better life and equal opportunities under the education

The largest amount! Where is the equity? Who is the college for?

01:02:46
Has anyone identified any specific outside real estate interests behind these cuts; and perhaps their contributions to Board of Trustees campaigns, whose ultimate goal is the closing or downsizing of the College to the point where they are able to take over the properties, i.e. Ocean Campus to build a new office building, apartment building or shopping mall?

CCSF is a lifeline for so many.

I was so afraid of education because I thought I would never do well. when I started studying at City College, I felt safe and happy studying at my peace. I accomplished my dream of not being afraid and ashamed of studying for where I had to start.

01:15:56
A problem with CCSF getting more money is that it has often not been used by the administration for its intended purposes. Prop A money was to be used for expanding educational opportunities--that did not happen. Leno money was to be used for expanding enrollment--that did not happen--much was put into reserves.

01:16:12
Thank you for speak out for students , especially all studentsI am proudly for Myanmar , i am myanmar too , we need CCSF

Again, the tentative plans recently approved by the board calls for cutting nursing and health education programs.

01:16:48
Where are the mayor? where are governor? why this thing happening?

01:16:49
It makes no sense that CCSF's nursing program would be on the chopping block when health care workers are needed now more than ever.

01:16:49
thank you Mei

01:16:50
Thanks, Mei!

01:16:50

01:18:11
Powerful 💥 Speakers!! 🎉Thank You for Your Stories & Speaking Your Truths!! 👏🏽

01:18:13
This is a crime to cut ESL.

01:18:15
It is very good that we have the voices of so many Asians, but we need voices from the African community and also more voices from the Latino community

01:18:15
I’m Debora . I’m from Brazil and I’ve been a CCSF ESL student since 2017. i never thought that I would be able to speak English, because of CCSF today can express myself. But I still need CCSF, I need education, I need be prepared to get a job in San Francisco. I need CCSF!

01:18:25
Wait, OMG are we cutting non-credit ESL classes? Wow! This seems soooo wrong!

01:18:28
Mei Yang…BECAME a registered nursing! This is being cut during a PANDEMIC SEASON and might risk loosing their accreditation because of the cuts. Exactly when the whole country needs THE MOST this type of service! CCSF will also lose the recognition of excellence in Cybersecurity by the National Cybersecurity if those cuts go further - they got their EXCELLENCE after winning 4-year colleges in the last Regional Competition! The cuts being done at Computer Networking and IT = CNIT will impact students getting jobs in the HEART of Silicon Valley when more and more IT managers are investing to grow and hire more folks, CCSF is proposing this cut, going backwards!!! GO FIGURE!

01:18:37
Thanks Fanny

01:18:44
yan fu thank you

01:18:47
omg so sorry

01:18:52

That’s absolutely disgusting, Fanny. I don’t know anyone who is more dedicated to CCSF than you.

01:19:48
Respect Immigrants! Walk your talk CCSF and SF!

01:19:49
I couldn't agree with you more, Fanny. Thank you !

01:19:51
Also they think of hte $20 million deficit but how much more money has it saved us because it has given so many the skills to gain employment, to contribute taxes… because it has saved so many from poverty, or helped so many seniors stay mentally and physically healthy through its senior programs…. the positive impact on the larger economy is also incredible, it is not just the students that benefit. Not that THIS should be the reason to preserve CCSF but since it always seems to come down to financial concerns…

01:20:00
Thank you Fanny!!!!!!!

01:20:01
My heart goes out to you and those who were given pink slips

01:20:06
Thank you for your dedication, Fanny!

01:20:07
Exactly, Fanny! Thank you for speaking up for us!

01:20:10

01:20:11
Fanny, you are amazing!

01:20:11
Thank you, Fanny.

01:20:17
City College saved my life, in the middle of this pandemic I was afraid if you would have a chance to be something in this terrible world situation. When I started to study in City College no just my English increases but also my self-steam and self-confidence, I've made a lot friends and I've been working in important projects that changed my life so much and out my mind in a safe place.I am a black woman and feel so welcome between my classmates and my indescribable teacher Ann Fontanella. My heart is broken down with this stuff and I hope things can be better in the future. City College is our ground

01:20:23
Please record stories.

01:20:25
enabling us to sepeak a common language

01:20:26
^^^

01:20:32
Yes! We NEED ESL, esp. non-credit ESL for new immigrants. It’s essential for the prosperity of our City too.

01:20:37
Again, these cuts make no sense for the community, the country, or anyone.

01:20:40
to the heart broken part (my ^^^)

01:20:47
Nanda, so well said!!

01:20:49
kudos to people who want to learn English

01:20:50
Thank you FANNY!! Fanny took her time to helped CCSF Collective translate community demands last summer into Chinese…out of her own personal time. I could only imagine how nurturing and encouraging she’d be as a teacher. Reverse the pink slips! Fund CITY COLLEGE!

01:20:51
Oh Fanny……….We need you more than ever now and everything you bring to CCSF

01:20:56
CCSF is an amazing institution which has given so much support to minority and immigrant students & people in poverty and has given them the opportunity to work productively in the San Francisco area. As an East Bay resident, I wish I could vote in San Francisco and had a bit more influence!

01:21:00
By cutting 19 full-time faculty in ESL, you are also cutting the diversity in ESL.

01:21:07
CCSF journalism classes were so important for my writing skills that I use every day to write case notes on my job. I already had a Bachelor's degree but it was 20 years old.

01:21:08
Thank you, Fanny!!

01:21:09
My heart bleeds for CCSF

01:21:15
thank you ADRIANA

01:21:16
part-time faculty do not receive pink slips. we can be fired at any time. 250 lost their jobs for this school year 20-21 as some 800 classes were cut.

01:21:16
Sillicon Valley sucked us dry now they can’t write a few checks?

01:21:23
Thank you ! Fanny.

01:23:22
Rick Baum, thanks for mentioning the PT cuts that began happening last year.

01:23:26
Thank you so much to all of the speakers, your stories have been truly moving!

01:23:30
CCSF classes throughout my working life helped me learn new technologies and software that were new professional requirements that I couldn't learn on my own because I couldn't afford the software at home , but was expected to use at work.

01:23:30
John Holmes, Merritt, FFT. Solidarity forever!

01:23:36
This pink slip is not just a simple warning it kind of represents as an eviction notice, they are kicking out our educators and staffs out of CCSF which is one of their home as well

01:23:37
IF YOU ARE A STUDENT AT CCSF OR PAST STUDENT. PLEASE SHARE YOUR STORY AND SUPPORT FOR CCSF, STAND WITH US IN ADVOCATING FOR THE FUTURE OF CCSF.

01:25:25
Jennifer right on !

01:25:27
We do, indeed, Jen! Thanks so much!

01:25:29
CCSF jobs as part-time faculty and in full-time jobs have declined dramatically. Around 2012, there were over 800 full-time faculty and over 1,000 part-time faculty. Now there are about 520 full-time faculty and about 510 part-time faculty. This is before the latest planned cuts.

01:25:32
Thank you, Jennifer!

01:25:34
Thank you

01:25:35
Thank you Jen!

01:25:44
The radiologic sciences program is being cut and will not be viable with the pink slip I received. 1 of our 2 full-time faculty will be cut and with this we will lose our accreditation. Essential workers instrumental to COVID relief will no longer be trained at CCSF. We are an nationally recognized program. Cuts to our program and Nursing represent the undermining our our basic infrastructure for recovery from COVID. It is the antithesis of steps for preserving public health and our communities.

01:25:45
Thank you very much Nanda for your powerful words! Keep sharing your voice!

01:25:47
As ESL STUDENT I can say that, I am here and I am understand English because I had class at CCSF. We need CCSF.

01:25:51
Where are the men?

01:25:54
Go Fatima!!

01:26:06
I love you Fanny you honored me by being a translator for not just language BUT CULTURE. Thank you for being who you are and that is a much needed bridge between all BIPOC faculty and students

01:26:10
Looks like we are able to “save chat” before the end of the Zoom-call — click on the three dots (at least that’s what is on my laptop).

01:26:26
I've seen this downward spiral in businesses. They can't pay the vendors so the shelves go empty so the customers are frustrated and stop coming so the money doesn't come in so the vendors can't be paid . . .The end is inevitable.

01:26:30
Shout to our students, you are city college!

01:27:00
Part 1: Imagine there was a San Francisco manufacturer, doing well, with 80,000 product sales semiannually.A company crisis scares away customers. Sales drop to 60,000. The company is not performing as well. New management is hired. The new CEO’s response is to lay off manufacturing workers which results in some product assembly lines closing down. There are now fewer distinct products for customers to purchase. Sales drop to 50,000 semiannually. The company is now struggling financially. New management is hired.

01:27:02
yes I hope we mail the chat transcript also as testimony of support for CCSF and what the classes have done to improve our working life and community engagement.

01:27:02
No cuts to CCSF! No cuts to CCSF art! Music & dance = Life! An attack on CCSF is an attack on diversity and the community!

01:27:07

01:27:09
#KEEPCCSFSTANDING

01:27:09
How can we be whole without CCSF

01:27:15
Please do not cut out the heart of San Francisco by cutting classes and teachers at City College. We, the City College Community are the life force that beats deep in the heart of such a beautiful city. We are heartbroken as for many of us the college connects us to the city and one another through classes. We make friends, learn about each others cultures, engage in academic rigor, celebrate our successes, strive harder together we rise. DSPS Learning Lab has provided it’s students a place to work at our own pace, learn strategies for to take bold brave stops towards a better life for ourselves and families. I’m an Artist, Student and I need city college to be alive and well so I can thrive and help those I care about - We hear you say No Student Left Behind - then please don’t cut ….

01:27:18
Part 2: A new tech officer introduces a new improved online sales website which is so difficult to use that 10,000 customers give up semiannually in disgust. Sales drop to 40,000. The company’s financial picture is looking bleak. New management is hired. The new CEO’s response is to lay off manufacturing workers which results in more product assembly lines closing down. There are now fewer distinct products for customers to purchase. Sales drop to 30,000 semiannually. At no time does management introduce an effective marketing campaign. In fact, one campaign consists of press releases talking about how the company needs to improve.

01:27:35
why are they doing this? who wants this? this is so bad for SF. bad for all of us. we all need education.

01:27:39
Final Part: The newest CFO’s response is to issue a press release blaming the company’s bleak financial situation on employee expenses, and to recommend a new, severe round of employee layoffs.Do you think the new CFO has fingered the correct problem?Do you think the company board has done a good job in its hirings of new management?

01:27:45
we need ESL Class

01:27:48
You are amazing Fatima.

01:27:48
I hope someone sends this recording and transcript to Jill Biden.

What action can we take to stop this juggernaught?

01:28:49

Hello everyone! I am Nhi. I am a CCSF student and ASC Downtown Senator. I am a first generation college student in my family. I moved to the U,S one year ago. I grew up facing sexism in my society. With the belief that the girl should prioritize clean up house and cooking but not education. When I first moved here only my husband and my parents believed in me that I should go to school. All people who I know in the new country are my husband and my in law.(my in law) told me to just go work any job that I could find and not continue college. That time I didn’t have money because I just moved here and I didn't have a work permit to go to work. I couldn’t speak English well. My husband supports me but he has to work most of the time so he couldn’t support my confidence that much. I almost decided to work in some job that my in-law told me to.Because of coming ESL class, my instructor Ann Fontanella has encouraged me to continue my dream to become a elementary school teacher and my VOTP instructors Robert

01:29:06
Thank you Fatima!

01:29:20
good afternoon everyone. We still have a lot people don't know enough English, so we need teachers.

super necessary yes

01:29:28
YES! Fatima!

01:29:29
PROUD OF YOU

01:29:30
We need supervisors to act, not just talk. Mayor and Supervisors and College Board of Trustees must present a resolution to resolve the situation. No cuts, no concessions! Full funding of OUR college. Talk is not enough, we need action! Expand, not shrink our studies and classes! We need to fire and replace every trustee, supervisor and the Mayor if the fail to resolve this crisis!

01:29:32
Thank you Fatima!

01:29:33
Fatima!

01:29:34
Want to enhance enrollment? PUT A REGISTRATION SYSTEM THAT MAKES SENSE!!! Horrible Registration System as the one at CCSF will make students give up….if that’s the idea, then they are doing the right thing. But if the idea is to enhance enrollment, then MAKE IT WORK and ADVERTISE CCSF…. Out with the Marketing person that is not doing anything and out with whoever was responsible for inserting such a horrible registration and scheduling system at CCSF!

01:29:37
THAAAANK YOU ‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️

01:29:43
We need our Body classes that PE offers they are the secret entry into academic spaces AND they gives us ways to release the racial trauma that continues to occur

I am soooo inspired by these student voices… incredible and thank you soooo much!

01:29:55
I hope someone sends this recording and transcript to Jill Biden, who is a community college professor.

Shame on you Board of Trustees!

01:31:12
There is no reason to not have a strong culinary department with the restaurants/hotels in SF. There should be no cuts in culinary!

01:31:13
We are losing diversity with the pink skips.

01:31:29
yes! The newer hires are the most diverse. This is a direct attack on diversity and equity.

01:31:30

Thank you Rhea!

STOP CUT!

01:33:49
Rhea got tenure and then got a pink slip. This is a travesty and a tragedy. As she says, this is such an attack on diversity on the faculty. She was my student in the job rights in hospitality class, and then she came back as a colleague. We need her teaching our students - no to the cuts!

01:34:03
That’s right! This is tearing down a foundational support for our community at a time when the’ve already been knocked down!!

01:34:03
Thank you Rhea.

01:34:09
Every COVID patient needs a chest x-ray and taking away radiology program is a grave mistake

01:34:09
Yes! & this Administration hides behind a discourse of Equity while giving pink slips to our vital Faculty of Color and taking away vital programs for our students. “We should not be cutting back, we should be opening up.” Yes!!!!

01:34:13
We need administrators with a vision and a committment to City.

01:34:14
Thank you Rhea!

01:34:17
got back on

01:34:30
This is an attack on BIPOC working class folks!

01:34:32
I work now as a Workforce and Youth Program Coordinator in SF after being at CCSF. Our employers and job seekers need ESL classes, culinary classes, construction, vocational training, and more. This is the time we need to invest in our City College. These are all essential classes and services.

01:34:38
Emily!

01:34:40
!!!

01:34:42
I want to shout-out for the PE/Dance department and wonderful teachers & classes there. Like someone else said, that’s a way that people find their way into going to CCSF … even though they didn’t realize they wanted to. PE & Dance are essential — not optional! Administrators: Don’t get rid of valuable, experienced teachers at CCSF!

01:35:02
Every speaker has made compelling statements. We need a list of demands explaining specifically what we want. It can include no cuts in classes, no cuts in faculty, fix the online registration system, the government must properly fund public education, etc.

01:35:04
agree

01:35:09
YES, equality!

01:35:16
I cant understand if this is an powerful city what we are struggle with a bad administration in city college. I Just started my credit classes and I scarred for my future and for the others students and teachers. What is next.. privatization?

01:35:17
Yes, community of resources!

01:35:22
Save CCSF as we know it!!!!!

01:35:23
Thank you Emily.

01:35:27
Support .CCSF

01:35:28
CCSF builds equity

01:35:28
Correct CCSF is the best

01:35:31
Mayor Breed does not support ccsf

01:35:48
AFT2121 Please make the chat available. I want to give all my attention to the very powerful and moving speakers, particularly our students who started in ESL.

01:35:52
Thank you to the dance department instructors for the skills I needed to obtain a masters degree. I would not have been able to gain this highly technical in-depth dance training elsewhere because of finances. For the first time in 12 years I am finally moving up from my jobs as a waitress and grocery clerk, into a career in the arts, thanks to dance at city college.

01:35:53
Pandemic is just a excuse

01:35:59
YES>….. CCSF is super positive to society at large in ways that are not taken into account

01:36:12
Let's recognize who is being harmed the most by the decisions of the administration and board of trustees.

01:36:21
You make a whole lot of sense Emily! This is our city and CCSF is in SF!

01:36:24
We need our city leaders to stop politicizing education.

01:36:24
City College students, specially students of color need classes, and Counselors that support their educational goals. Losing 15 counselors will not support our students. Our students need us more than ever!

01:36:25
The state is operating with a surplus as a result of the pandemic, right?? Why don’t they see what’s happening and help???

01:36:26
Thanks

01:36:28
Thank you, Emily!!

01:36:29
thank you to our ART department, wonderful teachers!!!

01:36:31
Yes, yes, so well put, Emily!

01:36:32
Thank you!!!

01:36:33
Thank you Emily!!!

01:36:40
English is our second language. If we cannot learn English and we cannot live in the United States, please do not cancel any courses, thank you

01:36:55
CCSF noncredit courses can give seniors a sense of purpose and community. More such courses could help seniors come out of isolation and thrive during post-pandemic times.

Thanks to all of those people who spoke so passionately for our City!

01:37:24
Where are the CCSF administrators? Where are the Board of Trustees? Mayor Breed? Are they listening?

01:37:24
Everyone should reach out to our leaders. After the pandemic education is important and path way to economic recovery.

01:37:26
The plans to downsize the community colleges comes straight down from the top, from Jerry Brown and Newsom here in California. No trust or reliance of Democratic Party politicians.

01:37:33
There were more participants a little earlier! Almost 0!

01:37:33
Thank you, Eira!

01:37:44
Earlier there were 500 attendees!

01:37:49
Almost 500

01:37:49

My name is Christine Beard. I have been full time faculty in the noncredit CCSF Transitional Studies department since Fall 2005. I also have taught credit classes through the Math department and the Learning Center. I teach both online and in the classroom.I was the last full time hire in my department – sixteen years ago! I therefore will be the first to be laid off.At a time when women teaching math and science are told we are valuable and needed, I am being told my services are not valuable and not needed. At a time when our borders are being reopened to new immigrants who need to integrate into our society, I am told my services are not valuable and not needed. At a time when we are coming out of a year-long pandemic with a population that needs the skills to enter or reenter the job market, I am told my services are not valuable and not needed. My department serves the most vulnerable populations in the city. Our students come from all walks of life, and Transitional Studies gives them the skills

City College Alumni CONTRIBUTE to San Francisco beyond measure!

01:38:20
I opened the door at City College next spring semester and could get the window that showed me the new cultural horizon. Taking ESL classes is not only learning a new language but also forming relationships in the city.

01:38:23
Thank you everyone! It’s beautiful to be in community & solidarity with all of you.

We need to recognize students are being hurt the most by the actions of the administration and board of trustees. They are predominantly working class and lower middle class people of color.

01:38:46
Julia Rose, how nice to hear that you are getting into a career in dance — and thanks to City College teachers!!!

01:38:58
Ccsf is giving me the opportunity to grow in my carreer to make me a better person helpful for the community

01:39:00
Send this up to the White House too! Stop the national crisis of defunding education!

01:39:02
City College has the ability to support the staff and the administration. I am grateful for the Professors and the Administration for all the support in navigating my educational goals. I am grateful during this time to have CCSF! I would like to propose the opportunity for the leadership to look into the Campus Police Budget and the programs in the Police department classes. I will be writing letters to the Board of Supervisors and the Chancellor. Hire a fulltime Chancellor! Retain Staff! Thank you everyone for all you are doing!
