We acknowledge that many of us are here as colonizers on land stolen from its original indigenous inhabitants. This annual fundraising event typically takes place in the city of Berkeley, California, on the ancestral and unceded Lisjan Ohlone territory. As uninvited settlers we have and continue to benefit from the occupation of this land. We invite you to go to the Chat box in order to introduce yourself and acknowledge whose territory you are on tonight. If you don't know which Indigenous people’s territory you are occupying, we invite you to reflect on that and explore a resource made and led by Indigenous people, which shows you which territories you are occupying: https:native-land.ca/

01:19:01

I acknowledge that I write from the ancestral territories of the Haliwa Saponi, Tuscarora, Souian, and Catawba peoples. I recognize Duke University’s historic and ongoing participation with settler colonialism. I recognize that enslaved labor, debt peonage, and the labor of those who do not enjoy the protections of citizenship are part of the history of this place and this institution. I further recognize that server farms are on stolen land and the energy sources used to power this communication most adversely affect indigenous and other communities of color.

Email from Cat Introducing the hire of Bridget onto staff: Hello Again, G.A.P. and NISGUA Community --I write to share very exciting news with you all! The G.A.P. and NISGUA staff are happy to announce that Bridget Brehen will be joining NISGUA as the new Guatemala-based G.A.P. Co-Coordinator.

03:04:57
Bridget just finished up her time accompanying with NISGUA in the Ixcan region last week. Prior to serving as an accompanier, Bridget lived in Poughkeepsie, NY, where she worked as the program director of an innovative after-school program for high school youth and before that, as the program coordinator of an AmeriCorps Program with the Youth Resource Development Corporation. Bridget graduated from the New School University in 1996. Beyond her formal work experience, Bridget brings a wealth of organizing and service experience to the G.A.P. Co-Coordinator position, throughout which her passionate commitment to social justice and anti-oppression work is evident. We are also thrilled that Bridget will be able to draw on her experiences and relationships formed while working in the Ixcan as she assumes the role of the Ixcan regional coordinator within CAIG, the international coordination within which we work.

03:05:19
I hope you all will join us in extending a warm welcome to Bridget in the coming months! She returns to the States this week, and will officially be on board for NISGUA's June board meeting. You'll be hearing from her soon...Take Care,Cat
