My question was answered, thanks!
Lindsay Shimizu (she / her)

Here's the volunteer spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ewtKaLn3mrHQ3odFPADfyfKx04hktLIy77Pl5TO5Ssw/edit#gid=0
Lindsay Shimizu (she / her)
01:00:36
The social time will allow for freeform discussion
tomro
01:02:40
It worked well at Highland.
Kevin L. Vargas
01:03:15
perhaps people who can't attend in-person can submit questions ahead of time
Michelle Doyle
01:03:50
That’s a great suggestion Kevin.
Lindsay Shimizu (she / her)
01:04:37
We were hoping for some ability to submit questions in advance--it will likely be the approach we need for the SPPD Q&A since that will also be a hot topic.
Michelle Doyle
01:05:38
Thanks Lindsay
Lindsay Shimizu (she / her)
01:10:38
They voted on it last year and it failed.
Cheryl Calloway
01:12:01
to what extent are we limiting voting opportunities for the elderly, differently abled or poor who may not have access to on-line voting? what about apartment dwellers? will paper ballots be available at the building's with a drop box?
Lindsay Shimizu (she / her)
01:14:30
I agree--I though it requireD a vote because it's a change to how members become part of the board.
Kevin L. Vargas
01:15:16
i'm seeing different bylaws at this link: https://www.highlanddistrictcouncil.org/board-2/bylaws/
Kevin L. Vargas
01:15:26
which set of bylaws are correct?
Kathy Carruth
01:15:41
The bylaws I have up
Michelle Doyle
01:16:34
Cheryl, we publish the availability of paper ballots and give people the opportunity to call and ask for a ballot. We will also have ballots at the annual meeting.
Michelle Doyle
01:16:52
publish* in the villager
Cheryl Calloway
01:19:50
how many people read the villager? if we send out post cards can we send out ballots to those same people. I'm just concerned about making voting too difficult.
Michelle Doyle
01:20:25
We send postcards to every household and they also have how to get a ballot.
Kevin L. Vargas
01:20:49
I'd like to give a comment but can't raise my hand
bergen555
01:20:54
I have not received mine. Just mailed?
bergen555
01:21:17
Ok, Thanks!
Lindsay Shimizu (she / her)
01:22:12
Same, Kevin.
Katherine’s iPhone
01:22:26
I absolutely trust my fellow Director’s and staff to handle this. They are more than capable.
Katherine’s iPhone
01:31:05
You have covered my comment, Michelle. Thank you.
Kevin L. Vargas
01:34:55
i'm frustrated and would like to move on with the votes
Lindsay Shimizu (she / her)
01:38:01
Those are all great ideas Cheryl. Maybe I can see if we can recruit some additional volunteers to help with potentially dropping off/picking up. Part of the issue I think is that we're a bit at the whims of building managers for what we can do related to rental units. If you have a few in mind that you think would be most beneficial, we can see what kinds of additional outreach we can muster yet this year.
bergen555
01:39:54
I have to leave the meeting, will listen a few more minutes. Thank you everyone. I do think that even though what has worked in the past should not prevent us from looking to improve. Making changes should not be looked at as criticism. Many of us come from different backgrounds and some of you contribute a lot.
Jeff Stolte
01:40:35
That sounds like an uncontrolled situation with the paper ballots, not sure that is a good idea. How do we control that now?
Lindsay Shimizu (she / her)
01:42:42
It's a little more tightly controlled with SurveyMonkey--each response is associated with a IP address, which can help flag weird occurrences (like if many people report different addresses, but use the same IP.) Could be a coffee shop or a private home, but it allows follow-up.
Kathy Carruth
01:44:25
There were 10 paper ballots two years ago, and about 4 submitted last year. 0 paper ballots in the special at large vote
Lindsay Shimizu (she / her)
01:44:27
In general, I think we do have rely on the decency of our neighbors. One of the required responses for both Survey Monkey and paper ballots is your address--that allows verifying the grid and allowing detecting any concerning trends.
Michelle Doyle
01:44:55
currently we ask people to mail the paper ballot back and they must include their address to be valid. We were only asked for 11 two years ago and 3 last year.
Michelle Doyle
01:45:15
that’s 11 and 3 ballots
Michelle Doyle
01:46:00
some of the possible outreach could include hosting drop in voting where people can vote on a tablet that we bring.
Lindsay Shimizu (she / her)
01:50:05
I think you might just need to accept the edits, so hopefully it won't be too difficult.
isom
01:56:57
sorry if i missed this lindsay... how did you reach out for that survey? thanks
Kevin L. Vargas
01:57:15

Jeff Stolte
01:58:22
I don’t see the First Tee event.
Kathy Carruth
01:58:53
I have it in my ED report and Lindsay can add it.
isom
02:00:47
bike event is so well timed for bike riding season. thanks to all of you making htis happen.
tomro
02:00:56
Where are they?
Lindsay Shimizu (she / her)
02:04:23
Kathy is a huge asset when it comes to making these connections--she's really responsible for most of our events that come to fruition.
Lindsay Shimizu (she / her)
02:04:59
Really thankful to Tom, Jeff, and Nate, too--not only for making the suggestions, but actually initiating the conversations!
Jeff Stolte
02:05:31
She also advocated for the lights along St Kates !

Thank you Lindsay!
Lindsay Shimizu (she / her)
02:08:54
Here's the volunteer spreadsheet again, too: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ewtKaLn3mrHQ3odFPADfyfKx04hktLIy77Pl5TO5Ssw/edit#gid=0
Kevin L. Vargas
02:11:04
the question on TIF could be an email to Maureen, if she knows
Kathy Carruth
02:11:36
I can ask, but it seems that we should see if UST is moving forward
isom
02:11:48
tim -- thank upi for checking on TIF re: st. thomas stadium build. concern on the jardin project is neighbors -- businesses and residents -- were not yet notified.
Lindsay Shimizu (she / her)
02:11:57
The mailing to neighbors is a great follow-up for them. Glad that's happening.
Kevin L. Vargas
02:12:30
i read somewhere that Minnesota is the 4th most expensive state for childcare (or something) which means we really need it
Kevin L. Vargas
02:12:49
correct, no variance or conditional use permit for this project (yet, anyway)
isom
02:12:56
the parking and drop off is not figured out w/ >100 kids expected per day
Lindsay Shimizu (she / her)
02:13:07
That's depressing--anecdotally, all my friends who have new children have all been on waitlists since they were pregnant.
Kevin L. Vargas
02:13:50
@lindsay - the jardin representative said they already had a waitlist -- it hasn't even been built yet!
isom
02:14:01
MN used to be the highest in child care costs. thought recently heard still were
isom
02:14:15
good to hear it's coming down. soooo expensive
Tim Morehead
02:15:33
I have reviewed drop off situations at some schools that have way over 100 students and I don't see a huge issue with drop off for this location.
isom
02:16:08
i'd be interested to understand more about that, tim
Cheryl Calloway
02:17:08
are there any BIPOC people in leadership positions involved with this project?
Tim Morehead
02:17:19
Marge, we can work on drop off issues with the developer for our next CDC meeting.
tomro
02:18:54
Learning Center - they should look at the learning center at Itasca state park - very interactive.
Cheryl Calloway
02:19:10
Thanks
Lindsay Shimizu (she / her)
02:21:36
I've jotted it down as something to partner on. Same with the upcoming budget engagement sessions. Even if we don't host them, we can definitely help advertise
Lindsay Shimizu (she / her)
02:22:33
Sounds like we'll help host them, hahaha! Thanks Kathy
Kathy Carruth
02:24:59
I was supposed to attend, and Covid took me down, sorry.
Tim Morehead
02:25:43
Let's wish Kathy a quick recovery.
Lindsay Shimizu (she / her)
02:26:57
Agree--I hope you feel better soon, Kathy!
