It is an all access keyboard and it can not be used, say in FB messenger, if it isn’t allowed in. That is also how it can autofill

in the appit says boards can only see the content you store on the app or send with it. Anything you type with our regular keyboard cannot be seen or tracked by boards. Android dispays the same warning for all 3 party keyboards

In an android, you might have to pick Boards to be your default keyboard. Then the keyboard toggle will appear on left bottom area of your android text message screen. It will let you go back and forth between keyboards. That's what I had to do on on Samsung Galaxy10.

Some android devices msake it complicated to switch between the native and 3rd party keyboard. To solve this, install the Gboard keyboard (by google) and set it as the primary keyboard. Then, you;ll be able to easily seitch by tapping on the keyboards key that will appear at the bottom of the keyboard. If it doesn't appear, tap and hold the globe and then select boards🙌🏼
