This report is so helpful. I appreciate the inclusion of race, ethnicity and gender. We tend to care about what we measure. It would be helpful to measure and report on disability as well.
Janine Vanderburg
01:30:49
Kat, agree. And it would be helpful to measure and report on age as well, especially given the percentage increases of older adults in Colorado’s population.

i don't see anything in the report that might shed light on the effect, if any, of unemployment benefits during the pandemic, i thinking about lower wage hourly jobs, were benefits at a level to motivate folks to stay home rather than work?

01:49:15
I'd like to hear more about social marketing initiatives to catch and retain teachers/educators. The media has a lot of influence on an individual's decision making, and the labor market stats and messaging may have been scary for people...a deterrent to go into or stay in education. With low and high burnout, young people are choosing otherwise.

For individuals across the state who need preliminary educational opportunities in order to then be eligible for different credential programs, can you discuss what is available for adult learners who are not in K-12 and need more to qualify for Higher Education curricula that are publicly funded and very available to all.
Annette Konoske-Graf
01:50:51
Agreed, @Cheri. Alongside CDE and CDHE, we launched a PSA across the state in 2021. The theme: If you want to shape the future…teach! You can check it out here. https://colorado.teach.org/media

What meaningful steps can we take now to support the industries that are struggling most? I would like to ask specifically about the direct care workforce involved in senior and disability care. We will have a greater need for a pipeline of workers to support the aging population, but they will need better wages, and a career pathway. Thank you!

Janine, approximately 20% of the adult learners served by CDE grant-funded adult education programs each year are ages 55+. Grantee programs often advertise at local businesses, schools and civic organization spaces with flyers, maintain a Facebook presence, may do local advertising in newspapers and local radio, etc.

When older workers are not hired, they (we) need to know why not, and what to do to make themselves hirable. We need better feedback from employer and employer partners. Most often the only feedback is crickets

What work is being done to educate the community of SB21-077 stating that lawful presence is not required of any applicant for any state or local license, certificate, or registration? This opens up many industries to individuals that have been told they are not able to go into industries that require state licensing.
