I was nervous about not getting abortion care in May 2020 in TX but, I was fortunate enough to get abortion care. However, I had to drive to another city to get abortion care because my local abortion clinic didn't any upcoming appointments.

We got our free EC from clinics & hospitals and bought pregnancy tests by the box from Dollar Tree. The convos I had w/ ppl at the Dollar Tree across PA/NJ/DE was the highlight of this work

question: is it inappropriate to reach out to other communities as well as your own?

or is it overreach, more often than not?

on the other hand, as a woman of color, would it be inappropriate for me to reach beyond my ethnic group?

one of the things I've found is a little bit easier for working with older members of privileged communities, especially with white people, is getting them to read some of the more publicly accessible books written about racial justice and then following back and asking what they understood and didn't, and trying to get at what their underlying fears are so that they can identify and talk about them to start working on white supremacy in particular. Its a baby step but it helps refocus attention to where it should be (and money to ethical organizations)

Question: what can organizers do to make sure that mutual aid projects are building power in communities and not encouraging reliance on orgs and/or The State?(if that's a goal, I know there are a lot of perspectives on that)

we had to stop because we hadn't realized there were tax implications for moving money from the collection site to send to people via cashapp, cash, zelle etc. and the people who were moving redistributing the $ would have to pay an extra 8k in taxes bc of what we had fundraised

maybe if your org was registered as a business/org?? ^

that's why i'm asking. We didn't register as an org or anything

but we had discussions over seeking 501c3 status so that we wouldn't have to pay taxes
