Coalition building with black Americans and other communities, including other minorities and immigrant communities because we’re all fighting the same battles for our place in our America.· Vote! Be visible and be vocal.o A recent Washington Post article on the “Biggest 2020 Election Surprises You’ve Never Heard Of” which is about huge Asian American voter turnout. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2021/05/10/biggest-2020-election-surprise-you-probably-never-heard/.o AAPI voters increased by 47% from 2016 compared to just 12% for all other groups.o Very encouraged to see the spontaneous community vigils and much more interest in learning about Asian American cultures and history beyond our ethnic identities.· Policy implications—community investment, hate crime legislation.o Government cultural competency--community outreach offices in more departments.o Good practices—ensure equity and inclusion in every aspect of our social life including healthcare.

Hi everyone. State’s Attorney John McCarthy is encouraging all victims of witnesses of hate crimes and hate bias incidents (which are much more common as mentioned earlier) to report them to the police at 9-1-1 or 301-279-8000 (non-emergency). The police investigate every report and the State’s Attorney’s Office goes to great lengths to prosecute hate crimes but we need reports and investigations done to build a case. I am happy to discuss the issue with anyone. My number is 301-910-4476. Phil Andrews, Director of Crime Prevention Initiatives, Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office. phil.andrews@montgomerycountymd.gov
