Please chime in with questions in the chat and we will answer them. Thanks!

51:58
Thanks for bringing up the Northwest One Library, Nick

52:27
Northwest One is ~1 mile from MLK library

52:30
If you could clarify if the 5 locations we saw were discussed already with the library folks?

54:49
it sounds like future library considerations for development involve community gathering/activity spaces, as well as the more traditional computer and book activities?

56:42
How much does the library use or program outdoor spaces for public use?

58:10
Martha, do you have any sense of the known challenges involved with moving/re-purposing the operations center on 3rd st?

01:00:20
Thanks! There are some great views of the Capitol and the Basilica in Eckington. And a Parks organization that would be happy to partner on spaces like that!

01:03:46
A practical DC council question: for new library funding, is that appropriated by the Recreation, Libraries and youth affairs committee? Government operations and facilities? A different one?

01:05:24
In considering locations, is the number of schools or # of students in the surrounding area a factor? What about proximity to DCPS or DPR facilities?

01:05:52
Neighbor from ANC 6E here. We support the new library for Eckington/Edgewood, but request that it not come at the expense of our Northwest One Neighborhood Library.

01:05:52
Related to Nick's question, we're obviously excited about the potential for a library in this part of Ward 5. What advice do you have for community members as we push for a library here?

01:05:58
The NW1 neighborhood is going through wrenching and prolonged transition. The Northwest One Library was requested initially by residents of Sursum Corda as part of the Northwest One Redevelopment Plan -- the planning document for the NW1 New Communities Initiative (NCI). NCI has failed residents in so many ways, taking away the NW1 library at this point would be insult to injury.

01:10:02
How long does it take to design and build after funding? (And sorry for being late, toddlers yelling “one more book” at me was persuasive)

01:10:06
it would be really interesting to include in planning with performing arts like "Dance Place" and "Brookland Artspace Lofts" to the North on MBT; and the former special-needs theater in the now STABLE arts.org space along the MBT

01:10:53
+1 on Daniel’s suggestions on Arts partnerships and I would throw in the nonprofit bike training center Gearin Up too, could be an interesting “bike lab” type concept

01:11:46
@Ed, I was thinking the same thing re: Gearin' Up!

01:13:19
adventures in urban planning....

01:14:29
Not sure if this is something DCPL is already doing, but what about the idea of the library having weekly outreach like bookmobiles or some service that drops off library holds and picks up books being returned from schools and senior housing that do not have their own libraries?

01:16:52
(within a radius from the library but where it's still too far for young students to walk to during school day or for some seniors to walk to)

01:18:25
Re-upping Shelley’s q above: Related to Nick's question, we're obviously excited about the potential for a library in this part of Ward 5. What advice do you have for community members as we push for a library here?

01:19:09
Have to hop off, but thank you to the organizers for pulling this meeting together. And thank you to Martha for your time!

01:20:00
Will Ward 5 for All support decoupling the decision to build the Eckington/Edgewood Library from closing Northwest One? Or better still, support development of full-service libraries serving each community?

01:21:52
3 other small neighborhood libraries are being redeveloped as larger, full-service libraries serving the same communities

01:22:00
Parklands-Turner, Deanwood, and Rosedale

01:22:12
Only Northwest One is slated for closure

01:25:16
Thanks very much Martha!

01:25:16
what are next steps?

01:25:16
dates of interest?

01:25:23
Thank you!

01:25:26
thanks for organizing, and thanks to Martha for speaking.

01:25:30
thanks. good to hear/see everyone!

01:26:02

01:26:08
