Statistics show that gun owners are likely to experience its use within their own homes than they are to use it outside of their homes with some unknown perpetrator.

43:09
Are we saying stiffer gun laws wouldn't help prevent some of the gun on the streets?

45:43
Right DC Thomas

47:28
Stiffer gun laws will definitely be implemented when the number of black folk open carrying and legally carrying increases. The only time, the ONLY TIME that the NRA adopted gun restrictions, in alignment with then Governor Ronald Reagan, was immediately following the Black Panthers storming the California State Capitol steps, armed and loaded, quoting the 2nd Amendment.

49:02
Is there ever a time that a person needs an assault weapon

51:13
https://www.history.com/news/black-panthers-gun-control-nra-support-mulford-act

51:25
Emotional instability, emotional immaturity, uneducated and ignorant adults are a common theme in most shootings. I feel assault weapons have no purpose amongst civilized people.

51:43
NEVER need an assault weapon on civilian streets and households

52:40
What about the psychological aspect of youth and gun violence are their resources in Colorado for this in addition, I was under the impression that most guns were obtained illegally in regards to youth. Aside from what happened with the mass shootings?

53:10
These mass shooters kill because they want to. Because they can. That’s it.

56:55
Why work a job where your first response to a scenario is fear?

57:11
Hiding your hands is not a crime

57:58
@toi it becomes your first response after a negative experience.

58:13
Violence prevention programs should be required in all schools. I agree Toi!

58:57
How about the INSTANT fear that surfaces when those uniformed officers, sworn to serve and protect, approach our citizens of color?

01:00:11
@toi it's bias and prejudice that comes up immediately and we do the same when we see the police. Just my opinion..

01:00:13
I have provided a session for the training of the officers in relationship to their training of contacting the public how is that going?

01:00:41
Are guns illegal? Are they confiscated from the white community at the same rate? It seems that when the BIPOC community has one , it is illegal and needs to be confiscated.

01:02:01
I grew up in Detroit, never had to fear the police because by policy implemented by our then first African American Mayor, Coleman A. Young, uniformed officers had to live in the community. So, we knew them, they knew us, we went to church with their families, scvhool with their children, they were our neighbors, so the first and immediate reaction to us or our reaction to them, was not adversarial. We ran to the cop cars as they came down the street because we knew them. Denver cops ought to live in Denver communities.

01:03:19
I second that requirement Toi!

01:03:32
Randy. I agree

01:03:43
@ toi agreed we also need more blk folks applying.. Nobody wants to work as an officer in our community. We have to see this as a community emergency.

01:04:24
Absolutely Craven!

01:04:37
@meeka the difference between the prejudice that arises when the police see us in comparison to we see the police is a generational institutional systemic prejudice. One based off of historic repeated circumstance, The other off of pure bias.

01:04:44
No one wants to work in police because of the great distrust of police. It’s sad.

01:04:56
post traumatic slave disorder! PTSD

01:05:45
Thank you @Craven

01:06:06
Right on Randy

01:06:29
Fear in combination with power is never a recipe for success

01:06:31
It’s not just about applying. It’s about an institution or system that has an oppressive history. You can insert Black people into the system but if that system does not legitimately change. It would just be “window dressing “. Tokenism

01:06:54
But how do we determine what is “mentally unstable”?

01:07:29
most people can pass the intake for mental health it is spiritual health that is the root of these mass shootings and gun violence. unfortunately you are unable to test for that.

01:08:41
Agreed, Meeka!

01:09:00
This would just be another way for white supremacy, that's who always makes the test.

01:09:37
@ Sondra exactly..

01:09:38
If you ain’t said a word Madame President! Tests will always have bias imbedded in them!

01:11:22
First 5280 Steel GC vetted our member before going to the range by focusing on their ability to understand, take directions, work safely and appear to be in a good mental health.

01:13:35
@ Alton not most of us are the ones leading these mass shootings. Again it's spiritual health not mental.

01:15:48
Media inaccuracy and negative bias tend to flame the issue.

01:16:23
Mentally unstable: talking about killing people. Reason for getting a gun ? Acting I’ll rationale ie weird hostility towards others.

01:18:04
I agree Chief Pazen.

01:18:20
our blk kids with guns is not always mental health its spiritual. Where are those organizations? Church? What are they doing where are they recruiting? If you have nothing to fear and nothing to lose you have no feelings. feelings are in your sprit and in turn creates mental instability.

01:19:38
My problem is the fear of the officers serving our community if you fear the community you need another job.

01:19:45
Agree. Responsible gun ownership and accountability for those who possess illegal ones.

01:20:13
I agree A Clark.

01:21:52
People turn to guns when they feel powerless. When they can’t control anger. Feel overwhelmed. We must find a solution for this.

01:22:05
Right on Chief Thomas

01:22:34
Thank you DC Thomas

01:22:39
Police NEED to HIRE PEOPLE who look like the ones they serve and protect in community. .look at revising hiring standards for felons who want to give back. LETS DO THAT

01:22:59
Do we really believe stricter gun laws or mental health assessments before obtaining a fire arm will really stop gun violence on our streets. How do we institute more classes on conflict resolution and anger management. I agree there is a social aspect related to how youth respond to situations.

01:23:07
Black On Black gun violence is a embellished construct that intentionally implies that we experience crime within our communities and other do not. We never hear WHITE ON WHITE crime, ASIAN ON ASIAN crime, yet because crime often presents as opportunities of convenience, people tend to impose crime on those in their communities. STOP with that poor and long since dispelled terminology. It is misleading and intentionally so.

01:31:22
@Toi...Facts

01:32:15
AMEN!

01:32:19
YES @ Kelly

01:32:23
Absolutely, we cannot and do not dismiss the data, however, we do not reference white on white crime as such, which implies that white folk don't kill and commit crimes against white folk and the data shows that most gun involved crimes that white folks experience are imposed upon them by other white folks. We have an immeasurable amount of work to do in our community, starting with laying to rest this false sense of loyalty generated by this “don't snitch” when we know who has committed a crime in our communities! If I am aware that you have committed a crime, I am SINGING LIKE A HUMMING BIRD!

01:32:37
Education in community

01:33:11
Which is sad but true.

white supremacy mythologies.. Know the truth.. Educate US

01:36:52
Are there any new solutions to address these issues or are we revisiting them? Where do we go from here? Our next action plan?

01:37:33
We need to DO something NOW stop talking and set it up ! I will help Meekaame.houstonchurchill@state.co.us

01:37:41
How dare anyone suggest that as a people we have normalized or accepted crime in our community. That gentlemen is a crime to suggest. May I remind you, that it has not been safe to call Police to aid us and the majority of crime against us is RACISM

01:39:09
@Deborah… SAY THAT AGAIN!

01:40:05
Are there any restorative justice practices that are being used? we know that is effective.

01:40:51
IT'S SOLUTION TIME! And some of that is just going back to a time where community collectively co-existed and supported one another and our children.

01:41:23
Set up a community meeting NEXT WEEK This must be treated as an EMERGENCY...

01:42:20
It would be beneficial for us to study and improve the documentation processes used when conducting investigations of the violence. That paperwork aftermath of is a strain on those left behind.
