Stiffer gun laws will definitely be implemented when the number of black folk open carrying and legally carrying increases. The only time, the ONLY TIME that the NRA adopted gun restrictions, in alignment with then Governor Ronald Reagan, was immediately following the Black Panthers storming the California State Capitol steps, armed and loaded, quoting the 2nd Amendment.

Emotional instability, emotional immaturity, uneducated and ignorant adults are a common theme in most shootings. I feel assault weapons have no purpose amongst civilized people.

What about the psychological aspect of youth and gun violence are their resources in Colorado for this in addition, I was under the impression that most guns were obtained illegally in regards to youth. Aside from what happened with the mass shootings?

These mass shooters kill because they want to. Because they can. That’s it.

@toi it's bias and prejudice that comes up immediately and we do the same when we see the police. Just my opinion..

I have provided a session for the training of the officers in relationship to their training of contacting the public how is that going?

Are guns illegal? Are they confiscated from the white community at the same rate? It seems that when the BIPOC community has one , it is illegal and needs to be confiscated.

I grew up in Detroit, never had to fear the police because by policy implemented by our then first African American Mayor, Coleman A. Young, uniformed officers had to live in the community. So, we knew them, they knew us, we went to church with their families, scvhool with their children, they were our neighbors, so the first and immediate reaction to us or our reaction to them, was not adversarial. We ran to the cop cars as they came down the street because we knew them. Denver cops ought to live in Denver communities.

@meeka the difference between the prejudice that arises when the police see us in comparison to we see the police is a generational institutional systemic prejudice. One based off of historic repeated circumstance, The other off of pure bias.

No one wants to work in police because of the great distrust of police. It’s sad.

Do we really believe stricter gun laws or mental health assessments before obtaining a fire arm will really stop gun violence on our streets. How do we institute more classes on conflict resolution and anger management. I agree there is a social aspect related to how youth respond to situations.

Black On Black gun violence is a embellished construct that intentionally implies that we experience crime within our communities and other do not. We never hear WHITE ON WHITE crime, ASIAN ON ASIAN crime, yet because crime often presents as opportunities of convenience, people tend to impose crime on those in their communities. STOP with that poor and long since dispelled terminology. It is misleading and intentionally so.

Absolutely, we cannot and do not dismiss the data, however, we do not reference white on white crime as such, which implies that white folk don't kill and commit crimes against white folk and the data shows that most gun involved crimes that white folks experience are imposed upon them by other white folks. We have an immeasurable amount of work to do in our community, starting with laying to rest this false sense of loyalty generated by this “don't snitch” when we know who has committed a crime in our communities! It would be beneficial for us to study and improve the documentation processes used when conducting investigations of the violence. That paperwork aftermath of is a strain on those left behind.
