Excellent point, Michelle.
Lisa Chamberlain

I try to remember not to take the rejection personally... ‘if it’s not a match, perhaps something else more fitting is out there.’
Barb Armentrout, CAE
29:44
Have to pop off for a bit (client is NOT relaxed this morning!), but will return.
Jacqui Kiviat

It's been helpful o reconnect with people again with some extra time...
Adrian Honderick

There are also transitions from hospitality into associations and vice-versa
Barb Armentrout
35:26
I also have a list of orgs/companies I will not/cannot work and itemize why -- mainly for myself but very revealing in a search situation about my inner core.
Adrian Honderick
38:30
with so many online application processes, can you include cover letters?
Carrie Millar

Barb Armentrout

and so many free courses available these days to polish tech skills
Lisa Chamberlain

I’ve heard that you should also customize your resumes... perhaps have one geared more toward the position you’re interested in... ex. highlight sales if interested in sales position or showcase your marketing experience, if looking for marketing position. what are your thoughts on tailored resumes, along with good cover letter?
Adrian Honderick
45:44
make sure your accounts are private!!
Barb Armentrout
46:38
sorry, client issues pulling me away. This has been great so far and thank you for doing this session!
Lana Steele
46:44
Also don't put your last name on your FB, Insta, Twitter if you want to make it harder for a potential employer to find you
Carrie Millar
48:03
are you willing to share that with name removed?
Michele Warholic
48:51
Yes -- I'll redact the personal and share with FSAE..
Lisa Chamberlain

Lisa Chamberlain

Do you address or acknowledge in some way the lapse in employment (especially due to COVID-19) in cover letter, or wait to discuss should you get an interview... do folks realize these are unusual circumstances?
Mary Gupta
01:02:19
I set up my phone on a tripod and recorded a fake interview with my husband. It made me realize what little nervous ticks I have, and how I generally appear to others. Sometimes you don't realize how you present yourself until you see yourself do it! (For example, I am always touching my hair, and I had no clue - now I know I need to pull my hair back when I present and/or are interviewing). I also heard a good tip from “Speaker Sue” to keep yourself grounded during an interview (or presentation) by holding something – whether it be a pencil or a coin or the side of a table. It really does help!!
Jacqui Kiviat
01:02:39
You can video yourself on LinkedIn...
Hester Ndoja
01:03:08
great tips Mary!

General question regarding CEO/Exec searches: Have you seen a slowing in the number of openings as people are more likely to stay with their current employer in this uncertain time? How do the number of open positions in 2020 compare to 2019/2018?
Jacqui Kiviat
01:06:15
Which types of association jobs are you seeing the most? E.g. CEO, COO, membership, marketing, etc.
Hester Ndoja
01:07:01
what if you are interested in a job that isn't hiring?
Adrian Honderick

We are getting an uptick of jobs posted in the FSAE job board - https://careerheadquarters.fsae.org/jobs/

The biggest challenge I have is convincing an organization from outside of the hotel sales world that my skillset is transferable outside of the hotel industry. Many organizations/associations/AMCs have experience requirements that I don’t technically have, but have similar skillset experiences and could apply to what they're looking for. Should I apply to a position even if I don’t meet their exact job requirements, or is that a turn-off for an employer?
Lisa Chamberlain
01:11:02
What Mary said :-) Good question
Ali
01:11:28
Is saying you are furloughed a turn off to employers as they fear you could return to your other job? How should you approach that?
Hester Ndoja
01:12:44
I love that positivity!
Hester Ndoja

01:15:07
Jacqui, by all means apply...but use the cover letter to make your case by highlighting those transferable skills.
Josh Gold, CAE, CMP
01:16:05
Do you find your association search committees are reluctant to include candidates who are not local in their list of finalists? Is the time it might take a candidate to relocate to the headquarters location a real concern for many search committees?
Ali
01:18:24
Thank you, Jim.
Jacqui Kiviat
01:19:52
Career Contessa is a good site.
