This is not a celebration of differences. This is focusing on the disparities and the horrible atrocities put on Black people and Africans. This is not the celebration that parents want to see.

5 year olds can’t get this concept.

I understand the importance to discuss history, but feel that it is more important to celebrate differences and accomplishments of diverse groups.

There are many, many local accomplishments that can be highlighted and celebrated. So important to highlight positives!

I agree, I think both are important. Celebrate accomplishments AND cover the history.

Right Becca -- so the accurate history should be taught throughout the curriculum. But the months of celebration should still be celebrations.

Is there an expert coming in to work with the teachers?

Hi Ms. Payne. Yes. The district is researching different organizations now for collaboration starting in August. We recognize that we all need help seeing around our biases and an outside organization hopefully can help with that.
