What was the name of the first book you mentioned, Kristen?
Hi! I'm new here. I volunteer with our local cat shelter in Nebraska and I run a cat behavior consulting and training business. I've known about these calls for awhile but wasn't sure if it was appropriate to join. A member of Maddie's Fund encouraged me to attend and so here I am.
Kristen, can link the last book you discussed?
Or give the name -- I missed it.

So, so awesome!!!
Pinal County Animal Care and Control https://www.pinalcountyaz.gov/
Great job Pinal!
I absolutely love this conversation. East St. Louis, IL had a very big feral dog population years ago. Gateway Pet Guardians asked the same questions. We rehabbed hundreds of feral dogs over the years. They are such easy fosters.
Such a great example of trying different things and sticking with it- awesome job!
We quickly failed with our feral foster. He's now our sweet baby pup that follows our slightly older (than him) young dog like a duckling following its mama.
How do you get them out to playgroups without them being comfortable on leashes?
We would pair them with an Uber friendly dogs and they learn to trust.
Love love love
I love this!
They are SO pretty!!!
Working in Greece, I disagree with the definition of feral dogs. There are no wild dogs in the US, as you may find in India or Russia. And even those "wild dogs" were once the puppy of someone's pet. There are dogs that are afraid of humans, many are born on the street. We have many of these so called "feral dogs" in Greece who go after livestock. They do very well in a large fenced area in our partner shelters and are happy to live with other dogs. Some can be rehomed, but most just enjoy living in the open area of our partner shelters in Greece and have an amazing quality of life. Not every dog must be a pet.
GPS collars are great for dogs who are at high risk of escape.
I really enjoyed living with my feral foster turned adoptee. He never let me touch him but we coexisted and I actually loved it- VERY low maintenance.
Like living with a house feral cat.

Thank you Elena!
We are transferring the Home to Home management to some of our dedicated volunteers. It’s a great way for them to help while not being required to be at the shelter.

I believe HTH removed ads so gov shelters should not encounter that obstacle any longer
Thanks @April - please reach out to Stephanie Miller or myself when Adopt -a - Pet is ready to reach out to Canada!!
Love the “hide” feature when you hit threshold!
We use Home to Home. We do have people who want to shame those seeking new homes. Before we launched, we started educating our followers that we wouldn't accept shaming or negative comments on our social media platforms. I'll post our "hater" boiler plate.
Shaming or derogatory comments have been removed from this thread, as we do not find them to be consistent with Valley Humane Society's values. Home to Home is a program that helps prevent animals from going to a shelter. It exists as a resource for guardians to find a better, more desirable home situation for their pet, and we encourage its use. We don't have to agree on the reasons why an animal is being re-homed, but we can agree that animals shouldn't be in a shelter. Shaming the owners likely won't change the situation for the better. Please refer to the General Information section of our About page for specifics on our Community Engagement Policies. Thank you for your understanding.
Do organizations include pets adopted through these rehoming platforms in their shelter statistics?
Can we get a copy of this presentation? The data is really interesting
Thanks for that info @Melanie! We've had some challenging comments from some and it is great to have some great responses.
Karalyn, we use it as a different marker of community success, but not "adopted".
Kathy, we delete the comments and place this boiler plate in. We do not "hide" the comments. By doing this, we have had GREAT success in forcing these critics to reshape their comments. We track these "haters", so we know that this has changed their behavior.
amazing data. Could we get a copy of this presentation?
That is excellent @Melanie!
Yes love the data!
Really interesting… and impressive
April Is it possible to share your slides?
This is really helpful data
