Interestingly, there was a significant outcry among conservatives (including Kim Wyman) about putting party preference on the outside of their ballot envelope. We cannot ignore this.

The ballots are publicly viewed in the room where the ballots are removed and election workers scan the ballots for voter errors, duplicate over votes, and various other things that people do when they can't follow the voting instructions. Two people at each table and one person has to show the errors to the other person. That is recorded on the tally sheets that have to jive with other tally's. EVERYTHING is accounted for. There are observers at every step of the operation.

I'm referring to, for example, public release of the official ballot images, as in SF, Colorado, Wisc, Mich, FL and most recently by new legislation in Georgia.Let anyone count the votes on anonymous ballots.

Prominent election official in Philly is promoting increased transparency as better protection for election workers, rather than militarized 'hardening' with more separation & secrecy, & legally hiding election officials like victims of domestic violence, and arming them and their guards at their homes.Idea is that when the public has the same access as officials to seeing votes on ballots, there's little reason to attack them for behind the scenes rigging. Imagine 'No Behind the Scenes'!

@Tim White All the ballots are available to the public for scrutiny? What is the purpose? Clark County has several levels of adjudication of ballot anomalies. Last level is bi- partisan group of three to make a final decision. The voter is contacted if their ballot is in dispute for an opportunity to make their intention known or if it is a signature question they have that opportunity as well. I do not understand the purpose of public scrutiny of all ballots.

It becomes a full-time chore just to keep up with all these organizations!

WA conducted one pilot Risk-limiting Audit, in Snohomish Co sev yrs ago. One bond issue only.No RLA since, and none in the offing. Why?

WA has no Risk-limiting audits on the horizon; the RLA option procedures are opposed by WA Assn of County Auditors and Office of SoS. RLAs are excellent, but depend on the public examining the ballots during the audit, which is prohibited in WA.

How do the actual WA post-election audits stack up to Best Practices? I mean the ACTUAL audits, which are either 3 precinct Logic & Accuracy tests, or 6 random batch L&A tests. Are these convincing to the public?

It is only possible to confirm vote validity with open ballots.

The paper trail is of no use to the public when paper ballots, ballot images and cast vote records are all kept secret from the public.

What is wrong with showing the anonymous ballots to the 30% of WA voters who question 2020? That is a public audit.

10s of millions of US ballots have been posted online. None has been traced to a voter by ballot images (CVRs, yes, in NYC this year).
