BoS CoC Governance Council Meeting - Shared screen with speaker view
Does the lack of affordable housing not show up as a barrier?
Accessible housing as well
If we had funding to assist landlords to bring there units up to HUD standards would be so helpful. We are hearing this alot.
or a tax break provided to landlords/property managers for making units more accessible would be a great incentive too.
We need to see if the FMR can be increased for our areas.
Yes agreed on the FMR increase
It is fascinating to see the data support things I've been feeling in my gut.
@Eva - that is so great to hear!
I also should have said that we utilized the information that the providers shared in surveys around barriers and challenges - so most of this already came from you all!
Progressive engagement is most successful when there are enough case managers working in RRH programs, so case management budgets are so important.
Is it possible to take the unspend funds each year and use if for gap funding for supportive housing development? Our biggest barrier is lack of housing.
I think any ability to review this at the Local Planning Body is hindered by it being broken out by Region. Most Local Planning Bodies are not a Region.
Hi Kris, With CoC Program funds (that are administered through MDHHS in most cases for BoS) the funds have to be spent in the fiscal year for the project or be lost forever. I wish we could keep or repurpose them!
Also, the MSHDA ESG funds are also very clearly limited to specific expenditures and have a limited time frame as well.
@ Eva - great point as that will be our issue in the area that we service. Need it broken to our HARA service coverage.
GREAT point Eva!
Agreed. Great points!
If we haven't consistently spent it all historically, then at the beginning we could decide to set a portion aside for shovel ready projects' gap funding. Projects that will be completed within the program year. Would this be allowable from HUD?
We need HUD to change that rule. :)
@Kris - I would wager a guess that won't happen! But advocacy is always a good thing! You can think about other federal funding sources too
