Media usually calls elections soon after the election, based on raw data. Do they have access to the data so far do the can run it through the open source tabulator? It seems media will learn to run the tabulator?

They did release some raw data on the first round. Can't be final raw data even for 1st round however if all ballots not yet in.

States never announce winners until all the ballots are in, media does. But media is not experienced yet with RCV analysis.

Some voters think both parties are bought and the candidates are recruited by the crooked parties. Rank choice invites more candidates to run from the citizenry.

I think the data from NYC is in the process of proving her wrong on that particular point - turnout is higher this year than it has been in over a decade.

She has said that! I’m not really sure why she says it would lead to lower voter turnout, since all evidence suggests that in other places it’s implemented it has increased turnout. In fact, NYC had the highest turnout ever in this recent election!

Does this help to eliminate the "money primary"??? Amy McGrath had $70 million raised in 2018 for 2020 D Primary. D party selected her to defeat Mitch McConnell. She was not the best candidate in 2020. D's could only choose Amy on the General.

JJ - I agree. At the same time, I believe that as the Democratic Party has moved farther to the right, it has pushed the Republican Party farther to the right and pretty close to the edge of a major cliff.

I would say that parties have the ability to “endorse” candidates. It’s also worth mentioning that most local elections in WA are of the non-partisan variety, and don’t have the “prefers ___ party” designation that partisan races in WA have. There is actually quite a history involving court battles with this type of self-declared party designation when WA adopted top-two elections. The major parties felt that it violated their freedom of association, but the courts did not agree.

Here in central WA, where our Repub congressman Dan Newhouse is in inner-party fight for being a conservative Repub who voted for impeachment, RCV will become an attractive steam valve to Republicans in this knockdown dragout for control of the GOP.
