How many EVs are there in Maine?

19:22
Great question! There are around 6k EVs in Maine right now

19:38
How many charging stations are there by County?

21:01
I don't have the county breakdown but you can see charging station locations here https://afdc.energy.gov/stations/#/find/nearest

21:09
If an EV breaks down on the highway, can AAA handle it? OR will I need it towed?

21:55
What is the drain of running my heater?

29:24
Hi Kenneth, I don't believe AAA can provide road-side charging currently, but they can tow your car to a charging station, home, or garage.

31:35
I have an EV and find that the heat at a normal level only reduces the battery by about 10 miles.

32:46
Here is the model EV ordinance in totality: https://www.mainecleancommunities.org/_files/ugd/8365a2_7ee740a404d444d59b52e03dfe8d1cc5.pdf

33:29
If you would like an editable word doc version of the model ordinance you can email me at Kgraeter@smpdc.org

36:02
What's the website?

36:24

37:05
Ogunquit is starting a new Comprehensive Plan Committee, so this is timely for us, especially the model ordinance.

37:46
Great! A comp plan is a great place to work in language on an overall vision for EV readiness for the community.

39:04
Regarding policing EV parking spaces, can those be ticked by police in addition to being towed. I am thinking many towns/businesses are hesitant on policing these spaces. Is there a law similar to handicap parking issues?

39:33
What are communities doing about chargers in public lots? Is this an opportunity for revenue, or will fees discourage use?

40:38
Are there problems with cars “hogging” charging spots?

42:12
is there only 1 charger per statin

42:35
How long does it take to charge a car and how long can you run on a charge?

42:43
How would a small town with no local police enforce time limits at municipal chargers?

42:48
Are there Apps that simplify connections, fees, etc. as with many parking meters

43:08
Any thoughts on incentives for landlords to retro fit for EV charging?

43:34
Does it cost a lot to charge at home?

43:54
would you say it is cheaper for someone to have a charger at home or in the public especially once fees may start

44:22
Topsham has investigated options with companies that allow for revenue sharing but did not see a lot of potential for our municipal locations. The consultant did not think folks would spend enough time at town office or library. Not enough to recoup the investment if they were to install the charger for free.

44:37
Wouldn't charging an hourly rate prevent people using EV charging stations from staying too long?

47:56
Wells has a lot of motels. Any thoughts on incentivizing them to put in charging stations/

51:12
You can estimate your cost of charging at home by multiplying 4 miles per KW times your travel distance. That would be operating the EV at the most efficient manner, using regeneration to capture energy when decelerating. That’s the average number of miles my husband gets with his all 2022 electric Bolt.

53:43
is it possible to get the slideshow emailed to me?

54:36
We'll be sending an email early next week with the slide deck and links to all these resources, along with the recording of this webinar!

55:00
Thank you!!!

01:02:35
Glad to hear about those proposed peak /TOU demand charge changes.

01:04:30
Are there obstacles from a grid perspective to expanding charger installations?

01:05:17
Question for Aaron Smith. Will CMP be offering new incentives or supplemental funding for school bus infrastructure?

01:06:00
Are there issues with vandalism or other damage?

01:07:55

How well do EV chargers work with solar power?

All of our videos and more resources can be found here: https://www.efficiencymaine.com/ev/

01:16:09
Through the Community Resilience Partnership, there is also funding for EV readiness activities beyond purchasing EVs and charging stations. For example there is also funding to "Adopt ordinances to encourage EV charging infrastructure, including at multifamily dwellings, businesses, and public parking areas."

01:17:40
Communities that would like planning and technical assistance to access those Community Resilience Grants can check out this list of organizations supporting communities: https://www.maine.gov/future/sites/maine.gov.future/files/inline-files/ListofServiceProviders_2022-01-25.pdf More info on the Community Resilience Partnership is here: https://www.maine.gov/future/climate/community-resilience-partnership

01:18:46
not sure if this has been covered but what is the average fee that is charged and is it per minute or how is it broken down?

01:20:05
Thanks, this has been informative!

01:20:32
what has s.portland and scarbough decided?

01:20:50
great. thank you!

01:21:01
We have recently seen our electric rates go up> will charging prices also increase?

01:21:48
Yes, I would expect most charging hosts to raise their rates to account for the rise in electrical rates.
