I am a Military Sexual Assault Victim Advocate here at Ft Hood and right now we are experiencing many survivors are coming out based off what happened with SPC Vanessa Guillen
Joahn Sperry
41:55
Surviving and thriving is defined by the survivor
Tracy Acup
42:13
Well said!
Dietra Woods
43:13
My question is have you been contacted by any survivors from the military that may feel more comfortable speaking with you as a survivor?

Joahn Sperry
45:17
Thank you to my military partners!
Dietra Woods
45:36
Give her my info PLEASE
Shirl Solomon
45:45
How big a role does embarrassment play on sexually abused victims. Not that they did anything wrong, but they still feel embarrassment. Especially if it happened when they were younger
Dietra Woods
46:11
YES AND YESSS
Shirl Solomon
46:20
Their ability to finally tell their stories

Laura Abbott
49:46
Thank you for showing self medication looks different…….
Rachel Bartz
49:50
Thank you so much for sharing. Is it shame that is underneath the embarrassment?
Jennifer Nissen
50:29
How often do see victims who were assaulted as children think they shouldn’t come forward now because it’s been to long or they think it wouldn’t matter? What would you say to them?
Sylvia Tomblin
50:54
You don't. Well I don't
Telet Stanley
51:14
That is great strength that will help others come forward
Sylvia Tomblin
52:21
Yes it is.. that's why I have remained silent
Monique Williams
52:37
What would you say to someone whom you are close to that doesn’t quite believe you?
Sylvia Tomblin
53:10
Awesome! I love that story of your granny.
Shirl Solomon
53:13
You definitely have a life changing testimony, I applaud your strength
Christine Hansen
53:16
grandmother loves you more
Brittney Thorndyke
55:18
What would you say to those who lean towards a victim blaming standpoint? To those who look at the victim and ask "well, what could you have done to keep this from happening to you?"
Joahn Sperry
56:26
That is ALWAYS the wrong question....UGH
Shirl Solomon
58:19
How has society in general treated you for telling on him
Rhonda S Barner
59:14
Sadly, too many people still have trouble understanding/processing that sexual abuse is a power and control action by the offender and victim/survivors have no responsibility for the abuser’s actions. We’ve come a long way but, until we stop wanting to blame and /or question victims’ behavior, embarrassment will continue and victims will shy away from coming forward. Sharing your story is so helpful and is an inspiration to others.
Maria Ybarra
59:51
So cute!!!!
Debbie Bradley
01:02:22
I really feel we need to do a better job in school and at home in teaching kids that no matter what anyone tells you, you must always tell an adult if you have been physically or sexually abused.
Debbie Bradley
01:03:00
His judgement day will come some day my friend.
Christine Hansen
01:03:02
Did The Nassar gymastics exposure impact you? Did it help validate your experience at all... either for you or those who may have not know what to believe?
Mary Wyant
01:06:01
What are some things we as individuals can do to show support for victims or to show that we are open for people who want to come forward
Dietra Woods
01:06:50
That’s the problem right there
Dietra Woods
01:07:15
That people are so willing to just accept things as being the norm and that it should just be ignored
Coral Rodriguez
01:07:36
Outside of age, do you feel that race plays a big part in how they pick victims? Or other characteristics you notice if any?
Dietra Woods
01:10:18
Thank you to all who working within this field ...we within the military are vigilantly working towards correcting the stigma that is out there about the military at this time
Joahn Sperry
01:14:45
I pissed us all off! Very honest!
Rev Amb Michael F Agbabiaje JP, CA, CVIS
01:15:08
Thank you for encouraging Victim Survivor to come forth
Sylvia Tomblin
01:19:49
I love her!
Anastasia Funseth
01:20:05
I feel these topics are easier to talk with advocacy people but others disagree or feel that this is coming out of no where. what suggestions or do you think will it take for everyone to address abuse and racial issues?
Carlos Olivagalindo
01:22:31
Thank you
Joahn Sperry
01:22:59
It takes all of us!
