why don't we recognize new NCSN in some form? I feel like it was a very big accomplishment that goes unrecognized by NASN and NBCSN

What is an AHEC?
deborah pontius
01:25:22
AHEC is an Area Health Education Center. Not all states have AHECs. They often serve suburban and rural areas. They are not specific to school nursing but any health care discipline, generally acute care.
Patricia Krin
01:26:02
I believe an AHEC is a regional or state "area health education center" I think FL and I know NC have them.
diana.jow
01:26:59
Would nurse practitioner courses qualify? I’m in an NP college program for MNP.
deborah pontius
01:27:43
Yes, if they pertain to your school nurse practice. For example, if you are an adult NP, those courses would probably NOT apply.
Patricia Krin
01:27:53
Academic credits count and almost any nursing credits would count
jill treutel (K-4)
01:28:09
what is AHEC?
diana.jow
01:28:16
thanks
bberset
01:28:40
Do you have any recommendations on allowing student nurses to do clinical experiences in our clinics this year? My state (Virginia) is limiting visitors/volunteers to the campus when school reopens in late August so I was unsure on what to do with my clinical experiences.
deborah pontius
01:29:46
NBCSN does not have a position on allowing students to do clinical practice at this time. That would be a site to site decision.
diana.jow
01:30:02
How many CEs are college courses of 3 units each?
bberset
01:30:04
Thank you Deborah.
Patricia Krin
01:30:24
I believe it is 15
deborah pontius
01:30:31
15 credits per hour of a semester course and 10 credits per hour of quarterly academic courses.
deborah pontius
01:30:56
So one semester 3 credit course is worth 45 credits. You are almost there!
diana.jow
01:31:06
wow. thanks.
Tania Chouljian
01:31:34
NASN conference posters were .25 for each poster..if I viewed all of them, and the total CE is 3, is that acceptable ?
deborah pontius
01:33:19
yes, we are accepting the poster credits as a TOTAL for NASN 2020 conference. You will need to add them up and submit them as one CE. We have a brief video on how to create a transcript from NASN which will show all your CE activities from 2020 conference on one page. It is linked on the NBCSN website and posted on the all member NASN community.
Patricia Krin
01:33:36
NASN posters can be submitted as a total. You can submit a "transcript" for your total NASN hours. If you need to know how to do this contact info@nbcsn.org
Patricia Krin
01:34:56
If you put your application in on time for your normal recertification cycle, your cycle will continue uninterrupted.
diana.jow
01:37:11
Retired meaning over 65 years old; & work per diem ok?
deborah pontius
01:38:13
Retired does not have an age criteria. If you no longer meet the criteria for certification as an NCSN (eg you do not meet the clinical hours), then you would be eligible for NCSN-E.
Patricia Krin
01:38:13
Retired meaning no longer working as a school nurse, once you go to Emeritus you can no longer use your credential in practice.
diana.jow
01:40:32
So does not matter the age of 65— if still working must go through the certification process until stop working, correct?
jill treutel (K-4)
01:40:50
Would the NASN transcript documenting >20 hours also require a content outline?
Linda Mendonca
01:41:02
Thanks for all this great work - need to jump off for a AFT town hall with Dr. Fauci! Stay well!
Eileen Gavin
01:41:07
Thank you everyone! Have a safe and heathy school year. I have to leave the meeting.
Laura Widdice - Renton
01:41:14
Would the annual payment model add up to more than the 5 year one time payment of $245? Would it be more than $50/year?
Patricia Krin
01:41:17
Thanks or joining
Martha Dewey Bergren
01:41:34
Toot that horn!!!
Patricia Krin
01:41:52
The charge would be approx. 20% or 1/5 of the total fee.

01:42:18
where can I get a certificate?
ROBIN COGAN
01:43:31
Spell it out too, so that people know what NCSN means
ernestine nicholson
01:44:32
Are the NCSN pins in stock yet?
louise
01:44:33
I find it interesting that the teacher unions have acknowledged the equivalency. That was the argument I hear most often.
Laura Widdice - Renton
01:45:20
It would be great to have easy access to the teacher union equivalency statements.
Patricia Scott
01:47:51
So proud of all you all are doing and our awardees! Know that while retired, I continue to advocate for school nurses in all I do. I also let colleagues and others know about how critical school nurses are to the health of all kids, and the rigor of certification. Thanks for letting me hop on this call and get an update.
