Hi everyone, thank you so much for joining us tonight, please make sure your mic is muted! If you have any questions please drop them here in the chat.
Rónán
35:36
Will you explain how this sound system actually works?
Rónán
38:07
Why are there so many cables and wires? Where do these cables/connect to the bacterium and micro organisms?
Rónán
38:18
*wires
Old Stone House
38:51
Hi Ronan! The noises we are hearing are based on the microscopic organisms/inhabitants that inhabit the various waterways. Gilberto will explain more and answer all ?s at the end of the screening.
Rónán
39:48
Will he explain where and how the wires connect to the various micro organisms?
Janette Terrazas
41:52
De que manera esta pieza sonora se relaciona con la protección de los ríos? Hay alguna acción que va más allá de la interacción con los micro organismos y el sonido?
Dan Berg
41:54
@Ronan, my GUESS is that the meters in the water read a particular set of parameters measured by the activity of the microorganisms. But I’m looking forward to finding out the mechanics from Gilberto, as well.
Old Stone House
42:23
Yup, we'll talk all about the mechanics!
Dan Berg
43:22
I’m also curious if the cleaning process kills the microorganisms, or if they continue to live in the water and only inorganic materials are filtered?
Old Stone House
43:46
Noted, Dan!
Rónán
45:01
so could it be to do with different energies and states of the micro organisms that produce the different sounds?
Rónán
47:12
What are the practical applications for this sound system?
Páez Vélez Carolina
47:33
hi! I would like to know about the process for the selection of the microorganisms and what kind are they?
Rónán
50:18
Yes. Are certain micro organisms better than others and why? What part of the micro organisms are being used to make the sound? Do you use algae or treat these organisms in any way prior to hooking them up to this sound system?
Old Stone House
50:58
Thanks for all the questions everyone, this Q&A is going to be great! If anyone is having trouble hearing the lower tones in the audio, you might find that wearing headphoes will help.
Rónán
53:21
How did you discover and come about finding the micro organisms and building the sound system? Did you discover that micro organisms have this sound-making capability from an experiment or something else?
Rónán
54:59
How long does it take you to process these sounds? Are they used in music in songs?
Beth Tuck
55:14
beautiful!! thank you!!!
zs anty
56:35
You think the micro organisms can heart?? They fell the sound??🤔
Anna Lise Jensen
56:40
thank you! the juxtaposition of haunting imagery with the production of sound are powerful - will the sound part be screened outside at Old Stone House?
Old Stone House
56:44
Thanks, Beth!

Muy interesante pensar este instrumento biológico como dispositivos de reflexión sobre la relación entre agentes humanos y no humanos cómo la contaminación y el agua. Saludos desde México
Rónán
01:01:29
Have you been monitoring the micro organisms that you take out of the various rivers to see if there are any ecological impacts or affects from removing these? Also, how many micro organisms do you use for your sound system?
Rónán
01:04:59
Does the sound system project help you to better analyse and detect which micro organisms and pollutants are in the various water bodies?
Rónán
01:07:19
What is the biggest problem with Mexican river water quality? Turbidity, pH levels, DO, Nitrate/Nitrites, Fecal Coliform accumulation, increase of phosphates or temperature variartions or something else?
Dan Berg
01:10:19
Why was it important to you to translate this information into sound?
Rónán
01:11:24
Does the sound system project help you to better analyse and detect which micro organisms and pollutants are in the various water bodies?
Rónán
01:13:29
When did this project start? Is this project unique to Mexico?
Páez Vélez Carolina
01:16:25
I am a microbiologist and during my research I work with bacteria that capture toxic metals like Lead, mercury and chromium from water and one of the biggest challenges I have faced is to communicate the results of my research. I find art as an excellent way to connect with people that are not involved with the science community. What advice would you give scientists, like me, to be more efficient in the way we transmit the work we make in the lab?
