23:50
Hi Manuel- Are you referring to the State case rate/positivity rate vs. Fresno County case rate/positivity rate?
Fabiola González
24:15
suggestion: consider maximizing this CBO call platform for the upcoming partner meeting you referenced Rosemarie - if many partners are already here no need to re-create.

Nice analogy Jim!
Ashley Swearengin
31:21
Jim, you guys have done an INCREDIBLE job managing and leading the districts through this crisis.
Artie Padilla
34:46
As i’m listening to Jim, i’m reminded that Kitty Catania is retiring today!! Blessings to her as she transitions to this new season of life!!
Manuel Escandon
34:48
Ana Cruz , give me a call to discuss 497-3876
Ana Cruz
34:56
The State positivity rate/case rate is an average of the rates from all the Counties in CA. The Counties that are in the Yellow tier help to bring down the overall rates for the State.
meredith wiley
35:45
how do you decide who will get tested in the 10%?
Ana Cruz
36:25
https://covid19.ca.gov/safer-economy/
Ana Cruz
38:08
Will do Manuel.
Michele Copher
38:47
@meridith the protocol is to randomly select 10% of staff working directly with students. Health providers will likely determine how to randomly select site staff for surveillance testing
meredith wiley
40:04
thanks.
Ashley Swearengin
42:06
Other questions you guys want to pose to Supt Yovino?
Andrew Feil | ENP
42:08
What has been the best adaptations you have seen from distance learning? What inequities or gaps were revealed that that FCOE is looking to bridge?
Angie Barfield
43:36
Thank you Supt. Yovino for leading us with the courage of a lion through this pandemic and working hard to get our students back to school.
Terrell Davis
44:37
Hi morning this is Holly Trevino from cultural brokers inc
Michele Copher
45:00
FCSS and school districts worked very hard to obtain and distribute digital devices. At the start of school closures we had about 60% device access. By July 1st we had closed that equity gap considerably with device access of 95%.
Ashley Swearengin
45:43
@michele - that is so AMAZING. Wow, that is a total silver lining in this crap mess.
LATRINA BOWEN
46:01
LaTrina Bowen from Cultural brokers Inc. How are the children chosen to go back to school? What is the criteria?
May Ly
46:08
Andrew, would you share the documents I emailed you from Valley Children's for providers/teachers to be on the lookout for abuse in the virtual learning environment and the "State of Our Children: Kids and COVID-19"? These docs are a great resource for teachers and anyone working virtually with kids/teens.
Christine Villegas
46:39
Thank you Supt. Jim Yovino for caring for our students and staff!
Michele Copher
46:54
Yes, we've learned a lot! We are especially grateful to how our partner CBOs have stepped up to support students and families and provide bridges to our schools. You (CBOs) know who you are!
Patience Milrod
46:54
@Michele—do you have any way of knowing how many of those students have adequate connectivity to participate?
Michele Copher
47:12
Raj Sra from FCSS did an incredible job making sure all of our districts had the devices they needed, he can be reached at rsra@fcoe.org if you have additional questions about computer devices
Sonja Dosti
48:19
In CentralUSD, we have distributed devices and hotspots to provide equity. Our main concern is mental health for our students—especially at the high school level.
Terry Solis
48:44
The teaches at CTEC have provided exceptional instruction and support to their students. Phenomenal job and Kudos to them.
Eduardo Gonzalez
48:52
Distance learning plan is with a live teacher or independent study?
Patience Milrod
49:04
@Michele—no question the logistics of distribution were an enormously heavy lift—kudos to all of you who made that happen. AND—do you have any info about the student experience once hotspots are received?
Sonja Dosti
49:58
@Edward Gonzalez: Distance learning is with a live teacher in CentralUSD. We do have an online home school that does not provide daily contact with a teacher.
Michele Copher
50:17
@Patience yes, individual districts are tracking the connectivity challenges very closely.
Rebecca Heinricy
51:22
How are struggling students identified for additional support?
Michele Copher
51:43
@Sonja, Mental Health is a concern (for both adults and students) and the 3 year old partnership in DBH and FCSS All 4 Youth is addressing that high need
Andrew Feil | ENP
51:49
Flu Vaccine Flyers and the Valley Children’s Guide for Detection of Child Abuse in Virtual Learning is here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1yd-pHoXB9F3HxSjIYS59EDrprXb0p3bK?usp=sharing
Patience Milrod
52:39
@Michele—can we talk? I’d appreciate having info about that student experience. Jim’s 1000% correct about the infrastructure problem, and we’d love to get a clearer picture of that.
Rebecca Heinricy
52:42
To confirm, all parents who requested Hot Spots should have received them from their district?
Michele Copher
53:12
As Jim said the CA Dept of Education lead by Supt Thurmond has been very responsive to schools, and in fact regularly checks in with Jim to make sure CA is being responsive to our Fresno Co needs. This is another silver lining of this pandemic crisis.
Patience Milrod
53:45
@Ashley—yess!!
Michele Copher
53:49
@Rebecca yes, contact your district or call our office for assistance 265-3000.
richard burrell
54:01
That's a great idea
Ashley Swearengin
54:21
@brooke - absolutely. Eduardo could help us organize that panel.
May Ly
54:26
@Andrew, thank you - that's perfect!
Emily Bahne
54:32
I’m in Kings canyon unified even our office has poor connectivity sometimes. we serve up into Dunlap
Patience Milrod
54:41
@Brooke—yes, we’re talking! And—if FCOE has GIS-based info about the students’ challenges in using hotspots, I’m hoping they’ll share.
Eduardo Gonzalez
54:57
Will schools allow children to participate via telepresence in the classroom?
Terry Solis
55:51
@Brooke - can we invite Mike Espinosa from Go Public School to the panel that is being discussed, please.
Terry Solis
56:03
That was a question, not statement
Brooke Frost
57:10
@Terry - sounds good to me!
Michele Copher
57:27
Mike Espinosa is a GREAT friend to the field, and in fact co-chairs the Education Field Team biweekly calls. We are trying to engage more parent and cBO voice in our Field Team calls. Terry, you'd be a very welcome addition to our call. I'll send you an invite.
Angie Barfield
58:29
@Brooke - I have a single mother that has 3 students in her home in school and the connectivity is a nightmare for them. I work to support them as much as possible to ensure her students are getting what they need. With no transportation available it gets frustrating for them.
Pamela Hancock
58:40
Every district also has a Foster & Homeless Liaison for students who are in foster care or who are homeless. As Michele mentioned, please reach out to the FCSS office and we can assist you. For Foster/Homeless FCSS: Pamela Hancock: phancock@fcoe.org; 559-265-4003
