he advocates that individuals that plant natives in their gardens can actually make a difference in the ecosystem health of an area in terms of insect populations which then help the bird populations.

Dr. Tallamy spoke (virtually) at the Santa Clara Valley Chapter of the California Native Plant Society and the talk is recorded here -- it is called Nature's Best Hope, and I highly recommend watching it.
