if my daughter already completed the 4 years in a second lenguaje she will automatically get the seal or we need to ask the school
Teresa Colin

she is on her senior year

Teresa, if you are talking about the seal of biliteracy, We had to apply through the school for one of our daughters, and we had to apply through the County Office of Education, for our other daughter, they attended different high schools. I would start asking questions. If your high school doesn't know about it, call your County office of Education.

But, I don't know about this State Seal of Civic Engagement..., this is all new to me!
Sally Haddad

Hi Teresa. It sounds like your daughter may be eligible for the Seal of biliteracy which is different from the Seal of Civic Engagement. I would definitely follow up with your daughter's school.

Are there any districts in California who have instituted this seal yet or is it too brand new?
Jen Rizzo
35:24
It was just approved this past Fall.
Jen Rizzo
36:35
However, some districts have instituted civic projects with similar requirements in the past.

I heard you say that ELs can earn this. This means our newcomers should be able to earn it too? Correct?
Clementina Baxter

Thank you very much for the information.
Kathleen Quiroz West

But it wouldn't be limited to just students who are bilingual, correct?
Liz
42:18
Could you name any districts who are planning to give the seal this year.

Do you know if Arizona is doing this? Or what other states are working on this?

Riverside Unified has done something similar in the past.

This is so great! I think the timing is perfect for engaging students in this important work. How exciting to begin. My district's school board just added a student member to the board this year and she's been amazing. Thanks so much for bringing this to CABE!

Yes, I love this too! Our school requires civic engagement of all seniors as a graduation requirement, but this will integrate with that and give them a great thing to put on their Resume!

This is great. As a new elementary teacher, I feel encouraged to check with my school to see if we already have something in place. I do agree it is better to give students this involvement earlier on in life.
Mary

In NUSD students love the State Seal of Biliteracy because of the recognition at graduation and beyond. I assume it will be the same for the State Civic Seal.
Teresa Colin
48:33
so if I understand right is this for all the students or just optional
