Various governments have promised to force the ESB to pay domestic homeowners a market rate for energy generated from Solar Power which is returned to the national grid. They currently do this in N.Ireland, is there any progress on implementing a similar scheme in the Republic?
Elizabeth
02:29:37
It is only at the exploratory stage at the moment Tony but they good thing is that they are talking about it!

Anne - check the guarantee provided by the contractor if you still have it. A contractor on the SEAI list could complete a survey and advise if any remedial work should be done.

Unfortunately not, the grant of up to €5k is for new EVs. But you can apply for the grant up to the value of €600 towards a home charger unit if you have a new or second hand EV.

What are your thoughts on Pellet Stove are they energy efficient in quite a large house.

Tony, the government is currently developing the Microgeneration Support Scheme to provide a payment for electricity spilled to the grid. It is due to be launched this year. It won't make a business case for pure export, but it will improve the payback for self-consumers. https://www.gov.ie/en/consultation/0ada2-public-consultation-on-a-micro-generation-support-scheme-mss-in-ireland/

Pat - there are various brands available on e.g. Amazon. Im aware of the 'Owl' energy meter but haven't used it personally.

Pat, at home I use the Efergy Engage Hub to monitor my electricity use. https://efergy.com/engage/. There's also an owl monitor similar to this. https://www.theowl.com/

I was fortunate enough to attend a renewable energy training course organised by MID, where Gerry Reaburn presented. I would recommend that course to anyone, it was excellent.

Noeline, if you're pellet stove is sized correctly and you're happy to run it (filling, ash removal, servicing etc.) then it will provide a heat source for your home. You'll need a back boiler to get the heat to the rads. The key thing is how well your home will hold that heat - insulation and draught proofing.

There is an initial cost outlay for the homeowner. The grant is awarded after the work is completed. Has consideration been given to ‘green’ loans from financial insitutions govt?
