Hi Tracy - Yes the plants grow pretty much at the same rate as long as we have astronauts taking good care of them!

Will students be able to chat with the astronauts in orbit?
Gioia Massa
51:03
They can always send questions or comments to the astronauts via twitter as well Kameel!
John
51:12
when plants do respiration they will take in oxygen and give out carbon dioxide. will it create a problem
Jerry Deall
51:23
Are the astronauts relying on the plants for part of their meal? Do they eat the plants/experiments?
Gioia Massa
51:58
Hi John - No, that's not a problem. The rate of respiration is pretty low compared to photosynthesis so generally there is a net loss of CO2 and gain of oxygen.
John
52:30
thank you for the answer
Amy Padolf
52:54
Check out our Twitter @GrowBeyondEarth or visit our website to sign up for the GBE project at fairchildgarden.or/gbe
Gioia Massa
53:04
Hi Jerry - The astronauts on ISS don't rely on the plants but they are eating them when we have the experiments going on. They are really enjoying the fresh produce, but unfortunately we only have a certain number of testing opportunities so they don't always have the fresh produce.
Amy Padolf

Machin Norris - AEF Fellow NASM (she/her)
59:52
How are we utilizing Lidar technology to impact reforestation techniques secondary to wildfires and/or how is this technology improving forests secondary to beetle kill?
Machin Norris - AEF Fellow NASM (she/her)
01:03:10
Also, and my apologizes but very into Lidar...is there new technology that incorporates both lidar and infrared for forest health and ecosystem sustainability? If that's a thing?
Michael Guarraia
01:05:40
Such great questions, Machin!
Michael Guarraia
01:06:49
How many of our participants have used GLOBE Observer?

I taught 23 7th grade boys how to use the tree tool on the app - they picked it up right away and went wild at a park collecting tree height data.

Hi John, I'll share the recording with all of the registrants tomorrow. That will allow you to slow down the videos and re-watch them. Also, feel free to hang out after the webinar and we can watch it again! :)

I am also curious how we can interact with this data and connecting data obtained back into a manipulative/graphing exercise/mapping/GIS of sorts in a math/STEM environment.
