When I first became rabbi at Temple Sholom of Ontario last year, I started calling congregants. I make sure I do this periodically. We have a smaller congregation so it's easier. People have enjoyed this. I've also gone out and visited infirm, older congregants and that's been appreciated.

How many Conservative synagogues are integrating and implementing using musical instruments in their services and what's been the reaction?
Neil Schuman
01:08:08
We do on Friday nights. Initially, there was resistance. But once we became fully acoustic and utilizing our own members, the congregation came to embrace it. I'm hoping to offer an alternative Shabbat morning service once a month with music, most likely at someone's home.

My take away is that we have to think more outside of the box. Love the creative ideas and what the clergy might be able to do. Involve lay leaders in a different way.

I am taking away that the larger the synagogue, the more important engagement is. I love the idea of having different members into my home for Shabbat.

Just started the regular phone calls to congregants, working on implementing ideas from Relational Judaism with our board & getting them on board to make this a mission for our synagogue - in beginning our Strategic planning we have already identified "relationships" as one of the elements that people most enjoy in our schul. As a tiny schul we can use these ideas.
